Beauty and The Beast

Murphy could still hear the shrill, panicked voice of her father in her head. He hadn't phoned in so long, and when he had earlier that day he had been begging for help. She knew very well what kind of a 'man' he had become - that was why she had stayed away from him for almost 6 years. A couple of brief phone calls had been exchanged in that time, but that was it. He was a lost man, broken beyond repair and there was no way she was getting dragged into his problems. He was her family - but so was Harley. The girl had become her priority, it was the least she could do for her and her sister.
But there was something in those whimpers on the phone that had forced Murphy to try and help her father. She had known he had various debts, but she never imagined they could get him killed. It was his own fault; you needed money for drugs, but you needed a job for money. He had neither, so he 'borrowed'. Of course he should have known that they would ask for it back, but even he hadn't realised how powerful these people were. They wanted their money, but he had messed them around. He was already dead to them.
A little while later, the brunette found herself in her car, racing down a highway to get to the people her father told her would help. They were a last resort and she was terrified of going there. The last thing she wanted was to end up with a target on her forehead too. But there was no other option; as much as she resented the man, deep down her father still meant a lot to her and he always would. Murphy had to try and help him. After following the address she had been given, she arrived at the backdoor of a towering building, that looked intimidating enough for her hands to shake. Was she just supposed to go up and knock? This was a gang, for god sake. But what else was she supposed to do? After a few deep breaths, the woman approached and knocked hesitantly, then stepped back and waited.
