Slayer - Divine Intervention. This is a vinyl reissue, but the promo card is from a 1994 record store display. I love this album so much. I met the band at a signing when it came out, and saw them live shortly after. The CD was on replay for months. I know a lot of people don’t care for Divine Intervention, and claim that Seasons in the Abyss was the “last good Slayer album.” I disagree, and think you really need to have a contemporaneous appreciation of what the metal landscape was like when this album came out to really appreciate its significance. Everything was getting so tame at the time as grunge was sucking up all the oxygen and established metal bands were grasping for commercial acceptance in the wake of Metallica’s success with the Black Album. Divine Intervention was everything I wanted a Slayer record to be. Fast, raw, aggressive, hateful, eerie, and brimming over with irreverent attitude. It was an awesome time to be a Slayer fan. Happy International Slayer Day!
