After the Avengers: Age of Ultron mess (yes it was an entertaining film, but Joss Whedon really left mcu -- not necessarily the story -- but many of the characters, in shambles imo) I wanted to point upset people to an old interview with the Russo Brothers that should hopefully restore some faith in the mcu being in good hands.

Some of my favorite quotes from the interview:

Joe Russo (about Cap3): (10:00) “I mean it’s always storytelling for us, storytelling is primary. It’s what’s the best story based on what we’ve got, what characters we have, moving forward, y’know, continuation of the Cap/Bucky story. What’s the best way to fulfill that story. And if there’s some stuff from publishing that we can borrow that can help us fulfill it.”

Anthony Russo: (1:16) “Marvel has an excellent process of balancing how connected these movies are to the other movies in the cinematic universe, and how independent they are. You don’t want to be saddled with too many things that are happening outside the perimeters of your film, it can be cramping. so they try to give you maximum freedom without putting anything more on you than you need to know. We read the stuff, we read the drafts, we watch the edits, everybody is up on the most current development of everything. But at the same time, there’s only a few key moments where they have to really sort of be faithful to one another. There’s a lot of room to play. It’s a balance, but it’s a balance that’s y’know again -- the error is always on How can each movie have maximum freedom to become what it wants to be? As opposed to How does it stay connected to the rest of them?” ((basically I’m sure they’ll figure out how to pick and choose stuff from AoU, making their movies connected but still making Civil War, as well as the Infinity War, amazing and exciting stories.))

Anthony Russo: (3:13) “We always said, look, especially what we were trying to say with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and why we lean so heavily on the political thriller genre is that we wanted there to be real world stakes to what was happening to the drama. And we tried very hard to make that -- we thought through every situation and tried to give it a contextualization that was plausible in our world, even though there are elements of fantasy in the film. We tried to ground it really hard, because.. if you’re not afraid of something bad happening, it’s like you’re losing the tension in the movie, so you have to be very committed to all possibilities including death for characters. As far as that death in the movie, it was never conceived as an actual death... it was always a narrow survival. But as storyteller we had to commit to it, we said ‘look, there is a very popular character in the marvel universe, who we’re saying.. at least for a moment in this movie, is leaving the marvel universe for good’ and we really committed to that idea of like WOW, how do we send off a character of this stature out of the film... and we spent a lot of time, in the scenes running up to that kind of building to that moment. Making it seem like fate was really coming for this character. And I think that made the twist more satisfying.” ((Anthony proving to put more thought into a character death scenario, even a faux-death one like Fury’s, than Joss did Quicksilvers entire death scene))

Joe Russo: (6:05) “We’re on a good place on [Captain America 3]. We got a draft from the writers, it’s fantastic. We’re really excited about it. And everyone is really hard at work, trying to put together a really, really good project for everyone.“ Anthony Russo: (6:22) “Yeah but the process on both [Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War], we’re never finished, we’re always in a constant state of refining, questioning, experimenting.. trying things, so it’s, y’know we’re kind of in the middle of that right now.”

Anthony Russo: (6:36) “No because I think even though Chris has said [that he is done with MCU], he’s always said... at least as far as I’m aware, that he’s, y’know, that he will always do marvel movies. So there was never an issue, in terms of his future in the Marvel franchise. He’s there, and he’s really committed to the character. ((I’m sure most people are aware Chris had said he intends to carry the Captain America mantle as long as fans will have him))

Anthony Russo: (8:13) “Well here’s the... look that’s the great thing about fans is that they don’t speak with one voice, which is.... they speak with millions of different voices. Sometimes they’re diametrically opposed, obviously, especially with a character like Cap. Because you’ve got some [people] that are fans of the golden era of Cap, some fans are fans of Brubaker, they’re very different versions of the character. So uhm, the things is while we listen to everybody because we’re fed by the energy and creativity with how people approach these characters and think about them, at the end of the day it’s like... we are fans ourself, so the barometer we use is what we want to see. And I think luckily there’s enough fans out there who are in line with want we wanna see, but it’s kind of nice at the end of the day we just really satisfy ourselves, because of our passion.“ ((they are passionate fans and I want to believe that they’ll create a vision that I’ll enjoy))

Going to NYC for three weeks

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been on a semi-hiatus for a couple of months, it’s mostly been due to work related stress. I’m off work now for a month (after which I’ll be Props Master on a TV-series on it’s 3rd season *w*) but before that I’m actually flying out to NEW YORK on Saturday! From what I know I’ll have a stable internet connection, so hopefully I’ll be a bit more interactive than before on tumblr/twitter.

Anyway I just wanted to reach out to mutual tumblr follows who live stateside or are familiar with the US. If you’d like to meet up or if you have any suggestions for stuff I should do while I’m in the States please hit me up! I’ll be staying in Manhattan for three weeks (4-28th April), with two shorter trips to Washington DC/MD and Los Angeles to check out some schools and meet a former colleague who works on Adult Swim now. I haven’t figured out the details of my trip to LA yet (what to see, where to stay) so any suggestions are super welcome!!

I realize today is April Fools Day but honest, this isn’t a prank I’ve just been a bit shy with sharing my trip and of course when I finally decide to write about it it’s April 1st ರ_ರ ....

But I realized that if there’s even a sliver of a chance to meet you guys while I’m here I’d hate myself if I didn’t take it!!! (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧<3
