Case 32: “The Voyeur”

That’s right viewers. After a lengthy absence due to a lame extended conversation with sad legalistic glutsuckers, Blinking Potato Garden (the only online paper that looks into the “unfounded” sightings of undocumented phenomena) is back with a brand new issue! And this one’s interesting…

Our researcher ‘peeped’ a few titles for this entity across different accounts and reports. Nicknames included ‘The Watcher’ (1/10. Boring,) ‘The Look Deer’ (8/10. Catchy. Ominous,) ‘Tom/Tommy,’ (6/10. Names on entities is cool and creepy, but this one’s too obvious,) and ‘Eyesore’ (2/10. Rude.) But we decided ‘The Voyeur’ was the spiciest, calling to mind the invasive eyes of a creature with sinister intentions. And is this one’s reputation surely sinister.

Earliest known image of “The Voyeur.” Posted to an online creep-out personal story forum with the caption “I like to play up the creep factor for my posts, but this time I l’m genuinely scared. What The Fuck Is This Thing Looking At Me?” (Typos included from original post title.)

The image (earliest recorded sighting) depicts The Voyeur in a near front-on angle, facing the camera in a quadrupedal posture, poised in a strange and unnerving angle against the wall. The dark pit on its head, though obscured by the dark and poor image quality, was first implied and then strongly upheld by the OP to be the creature’s large singular eye. Other prominent features include large curved horn-like protrusions, tapered limbs, and a long tail.

Long after the death of the original forum, this very low-quality image was uploaded to a newer forum of similar theme. The image depicts a brightened and sharpened landscape scene, with a crude digitally-drawn red circle closed around a bright quadrupedal figure. The caption and description directly referenced the mysterious figure of the original. The post was initially met with mixed reactions, first with mild curiosity for the old lore of the first sighting post. However, over time the post became slammed with negativity for its alleged status as a low-quality attempt to gain attention from somebody else’s online content. The poster vehemently denied forgery, up until their account went dark three months later, after the controversy had already died down.

Conversations of The Voyeur on the internet died down for years, until the appearance of one photo that reignited widespread conversation:

Posted 3 weeks after the Red Geist bombing attack on the mesa nation of Chiroterra. Photo appears to be taken during the long flash, and features The Voyuer standing a mere few lengths away from the photographer. Image titled “The Look Deer watching the skin between my fingers melt.” (The original poster clarified they had Manus Wings (wings structured out of hand bones,), and the title referred to the membranes between their elongated wing fingers.) Later statements declared “I was knocked to the ground by the blast. Could do nothing except writhe around in agony as I burned. The camera on my neckstrap just happened to be turned on as I was filming a video about the native reptiles for a friend. And then as I looked up I saw it, watching me, absolutely still through the entire disaster. Thought it was a hallucination caused by the pain, until I looked at the corrupted film of my camera and found a few stills of the thing I saw. It sickens me. I feel hate when I think about what it watched happen.”

This post is where it became common belief that the Voyeur appeared for the purpose of watching instances of great tragedy or pain. The two earlier sources’ lack of input on the situation only increased speculation that something sinister had happened to them.

The Voyeur quickly gained a malevolent reputation, with individuals speculating on its motives, or if it possessed any at all. Some believe it to simply be a passing apparition, or a spirit with no will of its own. Others believe it to be inherently sadistic in nature.

Finally, the most juicy part of the story! After mounting pressure for evidence, the original poster of the ‘Red Geist’ image posted their entire film file from the incident. The first portion, as claimed, is a twelve minute segment of hiking through the mesa checking in foliage and rocks for native reptiles. At the 12:14 mark, a loud crack and hiss is heard (the signature of sound of the Red Giest) and the filmtaker looks around frantically, too see a large pillar of dust in the distance. They drop the camera, which falls to their chest (attached to their body by a neckstrap) and we can see the ground drop away and assume the filmtaker is taking flight, before they are slammed to the ground by the shockwave, and the sand obscures the camera. Seconds later, the filmtaker flips onto their back, and gives us a view of the sky, enveloped in the signature and horrifying red flash. As the air heats up, the camera’s view begins to malfunction, skipping frames and them progressing to a few intermittent stills between patches of corrupted unintelligible footage, before the film cuts out entirely.

People online were quick to analyze the footage, attempting to salvage the corrupted pieces of it. An online group was formed called “Look At The Look Deer,” dedicated to piecing together the creature’s appearance and salvaging a clear image from the film. A few alternate groups formed, such as “Watch The Watcher,” and “Peep The Tom,” as well as a dedicated subgroup on the main monster finder organizational website.

Eventually, people produced results.

The below images have not been claimed or commented upon by the original poster of the “Red Geist Image.” They have made a public ask to stop contacting them about the entity, and have threatened to get legal restraining orders on anybody who continues to contact them for the purpose of ‘The Look Deer.’

The below images have been assembled by anonymous teams dedicated to cracking the mystery of the creature’s appearance, and through diverse techniques, have allegedly produced the following recreations out of pieces of previously unsalvageable corrupted film:

Team Bloodshot Optics submission: a team of hobby photographers, digital arts, and lost media researchers

Team Sculk submission: a team of lost-meda researchers, private investigators, and film students

Team Cerebrodunk submission: a team of digital artists and 3D modelers

These recreations reveal an interesting key details that was not commonly claimed before: if the images are to be believed, the entity has not one eye, but five. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a lot creepier than one given its reputation as a sinister observer.
