Today’s rec is part 1 in a two-part rec, the continuation of which will be recced for Novel-Length Friday this week.
It’s seriously a stunner of a mythology casefile, readers. It makes excellent use of our favorite leather-jacketed bad boy, Alex Krycek, and seamlessly ties in elements of the mythology that were introduced during the first five seasons of the show into a fast-paced, what-the-hell thriller. It reads like some of the best mythology episodes of seasons four and five, and we can’t WAIT to leave you hanging on the edge of your seat at the conclusion of tonight’s rec. Just like the good old days of tantalizing cliffhangers of yore!
Oh, and the best part of tonight’s rec? MSR is most definitely happening in full effect, but it isn’t the star of the show. If anything, the relationship takes a backseat to the initial X-file and subsequent investigation. That doesn’t mean that every glance, every interaction, isn’t imbued with eight layers of meaning. It most definitely is. And you can feel it, Philes. Hats off to tonight’s writer for a job well done. This is XF as it could have been.
