Where'd the time go? gn!reader x case masterlist
It seems like it was just yesterday when you were sat in case's truck, eating slices of pizza that had lost its warmth due to the windows being wide open, talking about how you think your futures will go.
"Well, wherever I end up, I hope you're right there with me." he spoke, holding eye contact with you as he stood his pinky out.
"Couldn't get rid of me even if you tried." you linked your pinky with his, smiling and taking a bite of the pizza.
The sky had melted into a beautiful orange and blue, and he swore the sunset was just as mesmerizing as you, maybe even more, yet he'd never admit that to your face right now.
He glanced at you from the corner of his eye, the fading light painting your face, your features standing out beautifully. It reminded him of every conversation you've ever had in his truck, laughing like little kids, telling jokes you wouldn't dare repeat in front of anyone else, spilling secrets to one another.
"Do you think we'll ever look back and laugh at this? The pizza, jokes? All of this?" you asked, breaking the silence once more.
"Maybe," Case said, voice a little softer then usual, "Or maybe will be in this exact position years from now, eating pizza, complaining about our jobs, wondering how we got so lucky."
You giggled, "yeah, lucky." you turned your head to him.
And he was right, because you did find yourselves in that truck. Older and Wiser. Richer and Happier. Eating the same pizza, which had gotten a little worse since the chef had changed, but the memories behind it made it better.
He glanced at you from the corner of his eye like before, once again, the fading light painted your face, your features standing out beautifully, but the difference was, he told you ever day how beautiful you really are.
His truck was slightly cozier now too, a polaroid photo capturing you in all your glory stood on the dashboard- a small 'i love you' written under it. A more personal once hidden in the sun visor.
"We kept our pinky promise." you said munching on your pizza slice, your knees to your chest, turned to face him a little. His hand resting onto of yours, thumb slightly caressing your knuckle.
"Yes ma'am. Couldn't imagine a life without you."
You smiled across at him, cheeks reddening a little. He told you that nearly every day, but it still feels like the first time. You leaned over and pressed a big pizza-greasy-kiss to his cheek.
"Just how much i love you." you giggled as you fell back into the truck seat. He raised his brow at you, not dare wiping it.
"Yeah?"
"Yup."
"Oh yeah?" He leaned across and gave you an even bigger kiss on the cheek.
