“Fizz! Good to see you son! How’s it been?” He’d smile, far more earnestly than perhaps he’d realized. (Cashbucko)
Fizzarolli had been keeping a low profile ever since he'd ditched Mammon in such spectacular fashion, doing his best to slip through the cracks unnoticed. A quiet coffee run felt harmless enough, just another small errand in a life he was now trying to keep out of the spotlight.
Then a voice reached him, one he hadn't heard in a very long time, but knew instantly. It hooked into him, tugging him clean out of the present. He turned on a dime, pushing his sunglasses up as recognition hit all at once. "Cash! Holy shit!"
Cash had never been easy to sort into something simple. Fizz carried a whole knot of feelings about him. There was no denying the way he'd pushed him way too hard as a kid to make the circus some money, or how badly he'd fumbled being any kind of father to Blitzo or Barbie. But he had taken Fizz in when no one else did, back when he was just another stray left behind, and that counted for something whether Fizz liked it or not.
"Excuse me," he murmured to the person behind him as he stepped out of line, already moving before he could second-guess it. A few quick strides closed the distance. He didn't stop himself. He never really could when it came to this. His arms went around Cash in a tight, instinctive squeeze, despite everything tangled underneath.
"How are you?" he rushed out, words tripping over each other. "How're, uh, how're things? What's going on?"
