… So I mentioned in my last post that I challenged myself to transform my living room in order to have a flat warming – in one week … and this is how I did it: using online shopping and a nifty payment solution called Visa checkout.
I know a lot of people aren’t comfortable with online shopping. I asked a few of you on my Facebook page and you said anything from “if the clothes don’t fit, the schlep of sending them back” to “needing the touching, feeling aspect before buying” ... and then probably the biggest one: the fear of fraud.
I’m a seasoned online shopper and I’ve taken a few chances but when I was approached about setting a challenge using Visa Checkout, I have to confess I’d never heard of it. I’ve used a few from doing EFT into a vintage seller’s account who sells on Instagram where you have to trust that the items you paid for will manifest as promised.
Other shopping sites use these convoluted backend payment solutions where you’re taken off the site to your bank and then have to sign in, get issued with once-off pins … etc and others you have to enter your card details over and over and over again. Fine. Secure. But really tedious.
I registered with Visa Checkout and after entering my card details checked out all the stores on the “See All Stores” options and perused the merchants registered with the App (you can download the app on your phone too). There are 300K-plus and growing, in over 21 countries.
There are some great ones like Yuppiechef (yes, I bought stemless wineglasses from them and some special gin) and Poetry and Design Store
Once you visit those stores to make your purchase, you click the Visa Checkout option, sign in and all your details appear. Once you’ve confirmed them, you’re good to go.
The great thing about this payment solution for those of us who are concerned about card fraud ... they promise to refund you in full in the unlikely event that someone jailbreaks your Visa Checkout account.
As for ill-fitting clothes and exchanges, I would highly recommend sites that come and fetch the returns at your convenience, free of charge.
