G-Shock is Grown Up

Who doesn't remember looking at colorful Casio G-Shocks in the mall? Are you surprised they now range in cost from $99 to $5,000? Don't be. The brand is 37 years old and aging well. Next time you visit a luxury watch site, you may even notice analog, digital and hybrid G-Shocks peppered in. The simple premise to design an unbreakable watch with accurate time keeping first inspired my curiosity with Casio G-Shock. The tech (solar, time calibration, GPS route tracker, sunrise/sunset data, moon phase, tide graph, Bluetooth/app connectivity) turned my curiosity into an obsession. Most of my friends consider G-Shock to be a playful line of watches. I don’t disagree since you can play in the mud (G-Shock Mudmaster), swim in the ocean (G-Shock Frogman) or scale alpine peaks without losing time (G-Shock Rangeman). In a world of luxury Rolexes and smart Apple Watches, G-Shock has found a way to be stylish and technical, without sacrificing cool points. You can still drop it from a window with confidence...just remember to use the connected app on your phone to figure out exactly where it landed.
