[Images: @cassiabaggins asked "Hmm autistic Fili and autistic Thorin. I'm thinking about it! (And projecting, what of it???) Thoughts?" @bananzer asked "I always hc Kili to have adhd. Thoughts?"]
Time to confess that I haven't seen the Hobbit movies since they first came out, and I haven't read the book for even longer. Sorry :(
But idea: almost all dwarves are neurodiverse.
Their "crafts" are really just another term for what we might know as special interests, and that craft can be anything!
Their long projects at the forge and endless patience, working until a piece is perfect? Hyperfixations.
The beads and fancy ornaments they wear in their hair? The main purpose is stimming, although hair decoration is also used for personal expression and to convey rank and deeds.
Their hearing protectors? Outsiders believe they're exclusively for protecting hearing while mining or crafting, but actually some dwarves wear them whenever sound is distressing or overwhelming. (There are also a lot of deaf and hard of hearing dwarves, but that's another story.)
Other races sometimes think that dwarves are cold or antisocial, but it's really just a case of neurotypicals and neuroatypicals struggling to communicate in a common language. (Culture comes into it too, of course.)
It's not like there aren't plenty of neurodiverse people of other races, but neurodiversity is pretty much the norm in dwarven society. This means that masking generally doesn't happen at all within dwarven communities and they don't do it when they're around other races.
Tolkien also told us about Iglishmek, aka Dwarvish Sign Language, in HoME Volume XI. It was taught to all dwarves starting at the same age as spoken language and there were regional dialects. This is wonderful on so many levels, but I'm mentioning it specifically here because non-verbal dwarves!
Lmk your thoughts everyone, but I've got neurodiverse dwarves in my head now.
So, it’s Fic Writer’s Appreciation Day...
I know this is coming in a little later, than other’s posts about it, but if we really take a step back - we should be appreciation fic writers all the time, not just on one day.
Some people do whatever they can to support people like me - writers of fics that post and share their hobby with the world - and that takes a helluva lot of guts to do. The world’s a scary place, and the people in it can be hella nasty, but we keep posting anyway.
So without further adieu, I’ll get started (’cause this could be a long list...)!
(Also, please take these lightly. I’m not great with words, and I can be awfully awkward, so bewarned~)
First that comes to mind is @ellana-ravenwood. She’s an amazing writer, and I’m not going to lie by saying she wasn’t a huge inspiration for me to start writing and posting - because she was, and still is. So, Ella, if you’re reading this, I want you to know how much you mean to me - and no doubt others too. You’re awesome. Don’t ever doubt yourself.
Next is @writefightandflightclub. My fellow Poe Hoe. My ride or die. I don’t care if you don’t see me the same, you’re a homie to me, and I would kill or be killed for you - I swear that. You always manage to say the best stuff, and I have no idea how you do it, but you better not stop.
@gingerwritess is my go-to for Loki fics. I will forever proclaim your talent, Theo, and how you always manage to write Loki so well. Honestly - did you sell your soul or something? If you did I wouldn’t be surprised. We love your work!
Naturally @propertyofpoeandbucky is on this list, and not just because she’s an absolute doll. Both her and @whirlybirbs have this thing where they get into a new and almost completely unrelated fandom from the one I followed them for, and let’s just say - Lani - I have never felt such a pull to Spencer Reid in my whole damn life up until you started writing for him. I swear -
@fizzyxcustard and @cassiabaggins both post some slapping Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fics, and they both always manage to pull me into the void known as the Durin Hole, because damn - if somehow their writing doesn’t do that one day, that will be the day I am taken into the darkness and die.
@sunmoonandbucky, @cake-writes, and @imanuglywombat - the Bucky Babes. All three of you are honestly such good writers, and even better people. I love you three so much, and you always deliver - not the content we want - but the content we deserve. I send my love to you, hang in there guys!
@haikyuudreaming. Kris. Sweetie. Your headcanons make my day. They always make me feel better, even if they’re filled with angst - and I can’t help it, they just do, so we’ll have to just put up with that fact. You write our volleyball boys so well, and I love you so for it.
@quilledinkpen. The more I get to know you the more we have in common. I swear if we end up being seperated twins or something I wouldn’t even flinch at it. You’re writing is great, and you’re doing so well.
@commanderserwin, @xxsmokeyy, and @attackonfics, you all feed my Attack on Titan thirst so well. You all write beautifully, and convey the feelings that would come with being in this anime so well that I often find myself cutting off from the real world and being right there - you know? Thank you, for being able to do that.
@keiqos and @keilemlucent, you both are my go-to sin-bin bingers. I’m a Hawks gal through-and-through, but damn - when you write for others I read them too, and I love them just as much. I feel like I need to wash my eyes out, but I guess it’s my fault I can’t help going back for more, huh?
In short, I love all your writing so much. More than words can really say. So consider this me also sending you as much hugs and love as you need!
Make sure to stay safe, and healthy too! As much as I love your writing - you always come first! So take care, and enjoy your day/evening.
Much love once more! - Nemo
13 with Fili? ~@cassiabaggins (this is a new main don't worry its still me lol)
Oh hey!! Yeah, Absolutely 😁 I hope this does the trick! I’ve never done this before, but I’m trying to get out of a writing slump...
(Also, love that new name)
Fíli was the elder brother, though so close in age to Kíli it was sometimes hard for others to tell.
Most of the time.
This time was not one of those times. This time, Fíli felt every second of the age difference- actually, no, Fíli just felt very old. Scrubbing a hand down his face, he stared down at his little brother, who was seated at his kitchen table with his arms crossed tightly. With a large pumpkin on his head.
At first, it had been funny. Trying to get it off was worrying. Now, with Kíli’s head apparently firmly encased within the squash, it was exasperating.
“Look, would you just hold still and let me try again?” Fíli sighed.
“What, and have you take my ear with it? No! Look, can you just cut me out?”
“And accidentally stab you in the face?”
“Well just don’t do that.”
“You’re ridiculous.”
Somehow, Kíli’s vulgar hand gesture looked less insulting when the deliverer had a pumpkin on his head.
“Could you at least just cut a hole for some air? It really stinks in here.” Silently the blonde dwarf flicked his eyes to the ceiling, praying for strength.
“...Fee?”
“Aye, I’m still here. Hold still, then, and lean your head back- no, not that far- let me know if I jab anything.”
The stiletto blade from his gauntlet turned out to be exceptionally handy at piercing squash rind, but he was careful to try and not go all the way through. When his blade had completed a wonky, almost circular shape, he sheathed his blade and jabbed the middle firmly. With a sticky pop, it fell backwards into the pumpkin. Leaning down a bit, he peered into the hole he had made. Staring back at him was a single brown eye.
It was extraordinarily disconcerting, Fíli decided, for a pumpkin to stare at you.
“What?” He shook his head at Kíli’s question.
“I made the mistake of thinking ‘This can’t get weirder.’ Sorry.”
From inside the pumpkin, Kíli sighed gustily.
“Can you just, I don’t know, cut the rest of it off now?”
“Adad, where’s- Uncle Kíli?” Fíli turned to look at his son, Thorin, who was standing in the kitchen doorway, mouth agape. Kíli turned bodily to the doorway, pumpkin wiggling atop his shoulders.
“Don’t tell your mother!”
“Don’t tell your mother!” Fíli and Kíli said at once, even as Thorin started to back away. The dwarfling left, eyes wide.
Fíli turned back to his brother.
“We’ve got ten minutes, at most. Hold still.”
***
“What on earth happened to my pumpkin?” Cassia asked her husband, bewildered. On the table sat a bowl of pumpkin seeds, and chunks of pumpkin rind and flesh in all different shapes and sizes.
Fíli shrugged, stuffing a muffin in his mouth as he tugged their son out of the kitchen hurriedly. Odd.
Well, maybe there was enough left to do the pies she had planned.
21 24 and 26 for the oc asks?
~@cassiabaggins
21. Who are your OC’s closest relatives?
Prim’s closest relative is her Aunt. She took her in when her parents divorced (her mum moved to the U.S. and her dad married an absolute cow) and is the reason she moved to New Zealand. Her aunt never had children and considers Prim as her own, their shared love of horses increasing their inseparable bond.
24. Who are the people your OC dislikes/hates?
She hates liars, cheats, and blatantly ignorant people. There’s not too many people in particular she hates, she’s always willing to give people a fair chance.
26. Why does your OC and his/her soulmate work so well together?
Prim and Fili are like yin and yang. They are almost entirely opposite of each other in personalities aside from how completely they love each other (and how equally stubborn they were to get there). They balance each other out, Fili helps keep Prim calm and in turn Prim can help unleash a more relaxed and playful side in Fili.
Thank you for the ask!! You know I love talking about my girl 💗
👉👈 got any Fili headcanons?
~@cassiabaggins
Let me have a think on it. Fili isn’t really a character I pay much attention to, but watch this space.
I mean I was crying about Fili being a dad and naming his oldest after Thorin so like.... We're all the same am I right ladies?
YESSJEIEJBDOSBDISHDJJROW
That is all
The Hobbit? ~cassiabaggins
yeAHHHHHH
1. The first character I fell in love with: Legolas. Legolas was my gateway to the Hobbit fandom and I am not afraid to admit it.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: If someone told me I’d like Thorin as much as I do now I’d never believe them. He was not my type but hey now he is.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Bilbo. Yeah I went there. I don’t have anything against him, in fact I do think he’s a good character, it’s just I don’t really like him. I do not get the hype.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Is there any character that everyone hates that I do not hate? No. There is not.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I used to really, really, really like Bard, but idk, I kinda don’t as much anymore.
6. The character I would totally smooch: Fili and Kili. They’re a package deal. I’d smooch them both.
7. The character I’d want to be like: Tauriel. She’s a gentle badass.
8. The character I’d slap: Alfrid. I’d slap that greasy weasel so hard Smaug would regain his life force.
9. A pairing that I love: Kili and Tauriel. Who doesn’t?
10. A pairing that I despise: Thorin and his gold hoard.
