Seeing as he hadn’t worn a tux in a little over five years, Alex hadn’t wasted precious truck space on one when he’d packed his things from Texas. Which meant he’d had to go and borrow one in town, but he knew that it would be worth it. It had been a couple of days since he’d seen Cassidy, and he felt like there was a tension between him that he absolutely hated. Hopefully the dinner date he’d planned would smooth things over. He would apologize, but he didn’t actually know what he had done to make her upset in the first place and he wasn’t sure he could ask. His previous girlfriends had not appreciated him asking, and he hated how oblivious he was to many things. How did one tell their girlfriend that they needed everything spelled out for them?
He parked his truck in the parking lot of Cassidy’s clinic, checking the time to make sure it was only a few minutes before closing. Hopefully she would be able to accompany him with short notice. The only downside to a surprise like this. Trying his best to swallow his nerves, he took the bouquet of lilies and stepped out of his truck. He walked to the building, carefully looking around since he’d never been to her workplace before. It was a small building, but cute in its own way. Due to the lateness of the hour, there were no animals in sight and the only person was the receptionist still at the front desk. The receptionist immediately apologized when Alex came in, telling him that they were about to close but could look over his animal is there was an emergency.
“Oh, uh, no emergency. I was just looking for Cas- Dr. Jacks? I have something I need her help with,” he said, grinning at the woman and trying to give her a knowing look. Between his tux and the lilies, it didn’t take a genius to figure out what he needed Cassidy’s ‘help’ with. The receptionist looked a little stunned, but nodded and said she would get Cassidy.
