Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
Zenin Naoya's life is a routine. He's so used to it and how predictable things are as an heir to a clan, even if he's not the next head, he's still an heir.
Everything was… Boring.
Aside from being a Jujutsu sorcerer, life has been boring for him.
People bowing at his feet, getting nearly everything he wants with a snap of his fingers. People grovelling for a sliver of his attention, kissing up to him whenever they need something.
He's 27 now, a prime age for a clan heir to find a spouse. However, it must be a spouse that the clan leader wants him to have.
His father wanted a demure, obedient partner for him. Someone submissive that he can order around.
And in all honesty, he was open to the idea. It was his duty as a clan heir after all.
But he met you.
You, who is one of Gojo Satoru's fellow teachers at Tokyo Jujutsu High.
You, who is nearly at the same level as Gojo in regards to abilities.
You were stubborn, outspoken, independent. The complete opposite of what his father wanted for his partner.
You, who he had a verbal argument with in regards to his now second year cousins, and lost. He lost the argument, for you were logical and calculating, unlike him who had gotten where he was due to his familial influence and his own cocky arrogance.
You were a breath of fresh air that he needed. The breath of fresh air that he needed to clear his mind of the toxicity of the warped Zenin family ideals and his own drunkard father's ideology.
For once, he found a pleasure in life, something worthy of every single day that he wakes up. Someone worthy of every day that he wakes up.
Suddenly, he found a reason to look forward towards the passing days, counting them down until he was designated to see you again.
His bleak days became brighter, and his mouth cannot stop the twitching from the hidden smiles whenever he thought of you and the banters you have with him.
The next time you saw him again, the banter between you is still there like always, his face switching between cocky and stoic, but you can tell that there's a difference.
There's a difference in his body language. It's subtle, but the slight slouch of his more relaxed shoulders are there. When it was just you and him, he felt more comfortable enough to fidget, his guard slightly lower than around his family, where he learned to always keep them up.
And his eyes. His sharp eyes that looked even sharper by the eyeliner wing he diligently puts on every morning, were warmer and brighter whenever he looked at you. In the year and a half that you knew him, they held an emotion you couldn't quite pinpoint just yet.
You knew that no one else but you and one other person noticed it. Naoya is very careful about how he presents himself in public, especially around those his family regarded as lower than them. But he can't help but lower his guard slightly around you.
“Hmm.”
“What is it, Satoru?”
“He's interested in you.”
You blinked before glaring at your long time friend, shoving the thoughts of Naoya to the back of your head. You're not blind. Naoya is handsome. He can certainly get with anyone he wishes, and you're not opposed to seeing him as an eye candy either.
And you're not about to bring up the fact that your heart skips a beat everytime you banter with him, or the way his smirks and glares affect you.
You don't even want to entertain the fact that you like him, let alone admit it.
However, as handsome and charming as Naoya is, his arrogance irates you, and you want nothing to do with the Zenin clan outside of official matters.
You can hardly deal with the arrogance of the other sorcerers. In your mind, Zenin Naoya is the king of it.
Plus, he is a Zenin. An heir. That's already a problem on it's own.
“He is not interested in me.”
“I'm the one with the blindfold and you're the one that can't see how a Zenin heir clearly likes you. Plus, You like him too.” Gojo scoffed out, leaning back on his chair in your office, legs crossed and his cheek on his hand.
You sighed and rolled your eyes.
“No, Satoru. He does not like me.” You said before ranting about how you wanted nothing to do with the Zenins, their messed-up family ideology, and Naoya's misogynistic arrogance, missing the way your friend and fellow educator's blindfolded gaze went to the doorway.
Unbeknownst to you, Naoya had been listening to your conversation with Gojo and your current rant about him and his family.
Neither his or Gojo's attention escaped the fact that you had not denied liking Naoya.
He pushed himself off of the wall he was leaning on and walked away quietly, mind working a mile per minute.
It was odd, the way his heart twisted at the thought of not being with you. He's heard of you before he met you, and he certainly carried a bit of respect for you and your abilities. But he had no idea that you'd worm your way into his heart when he met you during Maki's first year at Tokyo Jujutsu High.
But you did, and he just doesn't find it in him to complain about it.
If anything, he welcomed the thought of it.
He welcomed the idea of being with you.
If your avoidance on the topic of liking him a clue, does that mean you like him too? The way he likes you?
But even if you do like him, does he even have a chance? Or has he lost his chance before he even asked for one? Because of his family and his own past doings?
He walked around the campus, eyes roaming for his twin cousins' green hair and their nephew's spiky black ones. For once, he was glad that Mai's school decided to visit Maki's. When he saw them, he made his way to them, ignoring the others in the vicinity.
'Mai. Maki. Megumi. I need to speak with the three of you.'
He wants you.
He needs you.
You’re the only one that made his heart skip a beat, and made him feel like he's capable of more than just being an heir to the Zenin clan. And he knows that you can help change the clan for the better, just like how he slowly found himself changing because of you.
To him, no one else could and would compare to you.
To him, no one else is worthy of being with Zenin Naoya but you.
Since you do not see him as someone worthy of you, he will work until you do see him as the only one worthy of you.
And if that meant working with his cousins and nephew and reforming his and his entire clan's ideology…
Then so be it.
