Issac is the best Castlevania character fight me 🔪

No but honestly his character development made me love him so much .He went from hating humanity and Plotting to kill all humans with DRACULA HIMSELF. To finding peace in his own life and accepting himself and others and truly beginning to heal after being abused and used time and time again. He is literally the embodiment of hatred and healing. I'm also biased bc he's my comfort character.

Trevor and Sypha’s apathy to Zamfir’s obsession with the royals becomes a whole lot funnier when you consider the historical context to this series.

Wallachia is one of those regions that was so freakishly turbulent that it’s actually kind of amazing it lasted for as long as it did.  (1310 - 1859).  In the medieval period, this principality’s laws of succession were really different from their western counterparts.  As we know, English, French, etc. kings were succeeded by their eldest son, or failing that, nearest male relative or, in some cases, a female relative.  Wallachia took an entirely different approach in that the succession was determined by hereditary election, which essentially means that any one of the prince’s sons, even the illegitimate ones, had the right and the potential to inherit the throne.  Who actually succeeded the father depended on who the boyar lords supported.  Since its founding to 1397 (almost 100 years,) Wallachia had seen seven princes, making the time on the throne an average of 15 years or so.  After 1418, however, a political shit show broke out.  Historians aren’t exactly sure what caused Wallachia’s government to implode, but the leading theory is there was a conflict between two branches of the reigning family, Danești and Draculești, in which both sides fought for power in the principality, and that conflict later evolved into a territorial dispute.

I don’t know how old Trevor is supposed to be in the Netflix series.  (The creators never came out with an official age and he’s listed as 20 for some of the video games, but there’s a guideline in a character design book I own that younger adults typically shouldn’t be drawn with facial hair, so I guess he’s slightly older than his video game incarnation…?)  But even if we assume he is, in fact, twenty years old and was born in 1456, the rule of historical Wallachia would have changed hands nine times during his life already.  So yeah, on top of it being in Trevor’s character not to make too much of a fuss over Wallachian royalty, there’s also the fact he was probably well aware this sovereign of state wasn’t going to last very long anyway and had even less fucks to give about Zamfir’s situation.

Side note:  I’m not sure who was meant to be the mummified corpse in Season 4 and it doesn’t matter since Castlevania is not historically accurate, but I like to speculate so here are the possibilities anyway:  Castlevania takes place largely in 1476, and in that year Wallachia was ruled by Basarab Laiotă, but he was briefly overthrown in November of that year by Vlad III Dracula.  Vlad III Dracula was then overthrown and killed in December (again, same exact year) by Basarab Laiotă.

If I see one more person say Sonia had a child (EDIT: specifically Trevor) with Alucard, I'm going to scream.

Trevor was born SIX YEARS AFTER THE LAST TIME SONIA EVER SAW ALUCARD. ALUCARD WENT INTO A FUCKING TRAUMA SLEEP AND THEY NEVER SAW EACH OTHER AGAIN. 

Have y’all ever heard of dating? You can date someone and then date someone else. You don’t have to get married and have children with the FIRST PERSON YOU DATE.

People diss Sonia’s story for sounding like fanfiction, but they’ve never even set their eyes on Legends. If y’all actually checked out the game, you’d know how it played out. 

Were Alucard and Sonia in a relationship? Undoubtably. Can someone be pregnant for 6 years? I fucking hope no one tries.

Even if Sonia had a child with Alucard, it couldn’t be Trevor, it would have to be an older half-sibling of Trevor. And if that were the case, then it doesn’t factor into the rest of the bloodline.

Y’know, the only reason people think Sonia/Alucard sounds fanfic-y is because Sonia is a woman. Pair any other Belmont with Alucard and they go wild for that shit, but give the Belmont tits and suddenly it’s inconceivable that Alucard could be with... the ONLY BELMONT HE WAS CANONICALLY WITH.

Yeah, I will forever ignore Legends being retconned. If these fuckers didn’t want me to acknowledge Sonia as canon, then they shouldn’t have made her.

like... no. stop. you included all the Ayami Kojima art but then had the design of Trevor that looks the least like Trevor and the least like a Belmont. use his actual design from the games PLEASE.

I think a big issue I had with Netflix Castlevania-- I had several, but I will save y’all the rant about Trevor’s character design and general disrespect towards Trevor and god someone restrain me before I start ranting about their mishandling of Trevor--

Sorry, okay, a big issue I had with it was how... sympathetic they went with Dracula.

TL;DR: The writers made Dracula the main character of Castlevania and it frustrates me to no end. Oh, and I just fuckin’ tear this show apart with my teeth, fair warning. Do not read this if you loved the show and found no glaring issues with it. 

Okay listen, I simp for this man, but that doesn’t mean that I necessarily want to like him as a person or the things he does. I love Walter Bernhard, that’s a good diagnostic of my attitude towards delightfully malicious characters.

But this Dracula isn’t that. And he should have been.

He’s so fucking downtrodden and this is the FIRST BELMONT TO FIGHT HIM (in this universe, Sonia doesn’t exist, and Alucard is Trevor’s age, maybe younger, and it makes less sense the more you think about it). So what the fuck are they even gonna do with the sequel series? How the fuck are you going to have Richter when this Dracula is CERTAINLY NOT THE SAME DRACULA THAT PLACES A CURSE OF DARKNESS ON THE WORLD AND POSSESSES ISAAC LAFOREZE (ain’t even the Isaac Laforeze anymore, they completely threw CoD out the window). He’s also not the Dracula that kidnaps a fifteen-year-old boy and forces him to battle his own father. 

I could go on, right? Just list more shitty things Dracula did in the games bc he is Dracula?

Dracula’s genocide in the show is played up as something inherently sympathetic, something Hector was supposed to feel ashamed for trying to stop (another example of them making chad Hector into a fucking wuss with no personality outside of being submissive and breedable). 

NO! WE SHOULD NOT WANT TO SEE DRACULA WIN!!

The angst of Alucard killing his father was heart-wrenching, but you know what it did? It invalidated Trevor and Sypha’s whole role in the first two seasons. Trevor Belmont should have been given main character status, but he’s outshined by fucking Dracula. HOW? Because Dracula’s death isn’t a triumph against evil in the show. It’s a sad man forcing his son to put him down. 

AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ON GRANT DANASTY!

I’m gonna get started on Grant Danasty, you can’t actually stop me.

Grant’s backstory? Entire family murdered by Dracula and he was turned into a goon. Does this fit with the show? I FEEL LIKE IF THEY CARED AT ALL ABOUT WRITING COMPLEX CHARACTERS THEY WOULD HAVE TRIED TO MAKE IT FIT.

Dracula killed 50 merchants for “offending” him and had their bodies displayed as a warning. This is a caustic man. They could have acknowledged him having a direct role in the numerous tragic events that happen as like background-filler-angst (cough cough, the Belmonts being destroyed and us just fucking glossing over that, cough cough), but they were cowards and either had people traumatized by Dracula killed or made characters that could’ve reasonably had a grudge have no personal reason to hate the guy. 

His rampage against humanity for a few people killing his wife should not be considered a GOOD DEED! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED AS DRACULA BEING A FUCKING DUMBASS WHO BELIEVES HIMSELF TO BE JUDGE, JURY, AND EXECUTIONER BECAUSE THAT IS CANON.

When Vlad was Mathias, he pulled THE SAME FUCKING SHIT. HE HASN’T LEARNED! HE HASN’T GROWN BEYOND THE MAN HE WAS IN THE 11TH CENTURY!! HE’S BECOME WORSE!!

I don’t care that he loved his wife. LEON LOVED SARA. Leon rejected Mathias’ offer to live in defiance of God because Leon had fucking self-respect. Leon honoured Sara’s wishes and her decision to sacrifice herself for the good of humanity. Mathias didn’t respect Elisabetha’s wishes and Vlad didn’t heed Lisa’s.

Dracula shouldn’t have been the main character of Netflix Castlevania.

What? You say he wasn’t?

Then why did the show begin and close on him? Why didn’t it start by showing us Trevor’s tragedy or end on the Belmont line continuing (I’m not counting pregnancy being mentioned as closure btw)? 

Even when DRACULA IS FUCKING DEAD with apparently NO INTENTION OF COMING BACK, the only thing that matters in the series is Dracula and his baggage. I’m being hyperbolic, but seriously, the more I dig at this show, the more I get frustrated with the decisions they made. 

But I don’t have to love EVERYTHING about this show to love it. This is my cop-out: I still adore the show despite all the choices I didn’t like. When viewed it from an uncritical lens, it’s amazing as like... something completely divorced from the games it’s supposed to be an adaptation of.

I think I know too much Castlevania shit now because whenever I saw Belmont lineups I was like “Where’s Sonia? Where’s Christopher? Where’s Soleil?” but like I understood okay fine most people don’t know of them or consider Sonia canon, they are wrong, but it’s whatever--

i hate hate hate carmilla’s death sm. i dont even know how to explain it. im happy for morana and striga but her death is just… she could beat them tbh but anyways at least it was herself who did it.

not a big fan of whatever hector has going on (not a big fan of hector either) but i liked that he was given a choice and he could make the choice by himself. he deserves that chance. and also isaac’s growth and development is amazing to see ngl. he had this small pov and then he let it widen.

alucard 😋😋😋😋🫪🫪🫪🫪 i love him sm and he deserves so so much. when the twins (? idk correct me if im wrong) came to his castle asking for help he had SO MUCH hope,, like he was happy that he wasnt alone anymore. he was happy to help them. ONLY TO END UP IN AN ATTEMPTED ASSASSIN. 😭😭 and like im so sure he thought it would be similar to what happened between lisa and dracula bc i imagine him as a hopeless dreamer dont shoot me.

AND AND sypha and trevor UGHHHSHDHDJ THEY ARE MY FAVS. i caaant they are sooo good like every time theyre on screen i have a panic 😛 i hope trevor’s VA is rich af rn because that man’s voice is enough to edge ppl ykwim? i wanna eat trevor. sypha suphansidjdkdkdk she is so amazing amazinfjeisjxosjzid i love her im having another crisis while imagining them ngl
