Ambush Simulation is an alternate universe in which the Vanguard Action Squad's attack on UA's summer camp...was a test sanctioned by UA.

Other canon divergences include:

Shimura was adopted by All Might before AFO found him.

Touya returned home after the fire/coma, but nothing else changed so he's still a mess physically/mentally/emotionally.

Toga is still a disowned teen, but she's got the best support group she could ask for.

Sooo I was thinking... Walk with me while I delve into medical bullshit about Dabi again. Realistically speaking, Touya likely had to be tube fed while in the coma and/or given his nutrients through IV for three years ... Which probably means he was unable to eat and digest solids after he woke up, and on the street food would have been hard enough to come by but even if he got food, he wouldn't be able to tolerate it because his body was used to his nutrients coming from a tube or IV. No wonder he looked, like, sickly and malnourished when he joined the League. I can't imagine how hard that would be to get his body used to eating again while homeless. That's not even touching on the fact that his jaw was broken in the fire, his tongue has been sewn on, and burn victims usually experience a hypermetabolism causing them to burn off nutrients at an abnormally fast rate as well as muscle deterioration, making it extremely difficult for the body to hold muscle, fat, or mass at all.

So seriously we need to explore this more as a fandom. I need, like, 20 precanon fics of him struggling with his disabilities and disordered eating.

...I don't want to jinx it, but I finished closing the gaps for Chapter 15 of Ambush Sim Summer Camp this morning. So the new chapter is complete and is in it's editing phase. I'm hoping to finish it within the next couple weeks.

That said, I did post another chapter for One More Birthday this morning. (This one is 18+, minors do not interact.)

Opaline Hopkins - MHA Original Character

Opaline Hopkins is an American character (courtesy of the canonical mention in Vigilantes that the first hero licensing laws came out of Rhode Island) born six years after the Advent of Quirks and grew up to be an activist for meta-humans in the U.S.  She took part in peacefully resisting the suppression of meta-abilities by performing fire-dances during public festivals. Kinda similar to Pop’s technically illegal street performances, but Opaline challenged the system by making sure she had all the permits and obeyed city ordinances to the letter the same way any non-meta human would have to do when performing with live flame. By observing all safety precautions, her case sparked controversy and prompted government investigation into proper training and licensure.

She is mostly remembered both as the first fire-user and the woman who established fire-based Quirks as a subculture.  She passed away several decades before MHA’s plot gets going, but her name is still remembered in the pyro-user community, especially during their Ember Fest.

He plays and teaches piano in my AU series where he returned home post-coma but Fuyumi found him before he could leave.

He learned so he could rehabilitate his hands.

I like the thought that these two are friends.

My headcanon is they met while Katsuki was a newborn and Inko was still pregnant with Izuku. Mitsuki, being the type to be fiercely independent and prove she can do everything herself, was making a supermarket run with the new baby. Masaru, her parents, her in-laws, everyone offered to go for her or at least watch the kid while she was gone, but she insisted she could handle it. (Typing it all out now, that screams trauma response to something.)

Anyway, she gets to the store and quickly realizes she cannot handle it. The walk took more out of her than she expected and Katsuki is fussing, but she’s too proud to admit defeat. So she presses on, dealing with the now crying baby and ignoring all the judgmental and pitying stares around. People are whispering.

“Can’t she shut that baby up?”

“That poor woman, why isn’t her family helping her?”

Enduring all this and regretting the day’s choices, Mitsuki eventually drops a carton of eggs. Now the employees are giving her the stink eye, people are still whispering, and all the sleepless nights, stress, feeling like a failure of a mother, and postpartum hormones catch up to her and Mitsuki breaks down sobbing then and there.

Inko is the only one to break the Bystander Effect and ask if she’s okay.

Yes, I am mirroring this scene.

They abandon their groceries, apologizing to the staff, and go outside. Inko manages to calm the fussy baby because there was no way Mitsuki was able to do it given how worked up she was. They get to talking. Mitsuki is mortified her strong, independent front has cracked and now she’s inconvenienced this total stranger who is clearly pregnant herself and apparently better at calming down her kid, but Inko keeps handing her tissues and telling her not worry about it. Mitsuki says it isn’t like her to cry over dropped eggs like that. Inko assures her that she believes her.

Inko insists on walking her back home and they learn they live in the same apartment. They continue to bond over their small children and remain friends even after the Bakugou family moves out and into a house of their own a few years later.

They also take up the habit of just ordering groceries and having them delivered from there on out.

Originally, Touya and Aizawa were supposed to have more of a rapport in Ambush Sim, but this dynamic ended up being put on the back burner due to time constraints and the focus shifting more toward the sibling relationship with Touya and Shouto.

Maybe if I revisit the idea of a separate fic focusing on the provisional license training, I can find a space to explore this dynamic since I have touched on it a bit in Summer Camp.

They're not exactly friends. Touya kinda resents Aizawa as being part of the hero world but concedes he's an okay guy as far as heroes go and acknowledges that he’s a Pro the vigilantes can reason with. Aizawa sympathizes with him as someone hero society left behind as well as recognizes the Vanguard’s efforts as vigilantes bridge the gap between the heroes’ publicity and the marginalized people who get left behind.

But no, I did fully have a scene planned where Touya showed up at Aizawa’s apartment after a bad fight with Endeavor and asking to crash on his couch for the night. (He didn’t want any of his friends to know what was going on.)

Something cool I noticed about the Todoroki house while working on my latest comic…

The window in Touya’s old room is not a window. None of the other windows in the house look like that. That’s a door to a balcony.

Behind Bakugou in this frame is what the windows actually look like in the house. Below the window is the plaster wall that matches the walls in the rest of the house as opposed to the wooden paneling of the 'window' in Touya's room.

Further showing my point is the 'window' in Shouto's room. We all can see the UA dorm rooms have a balcony, so that too is a door, again lining up with the wooden paneling.

All of this is consistent with the exterior shot of the Todoroki family's garden, assuming the family sleeps on the second floor and have the shared balcony.

Going further, the balcony door was probably Touya’s means of leaving without being noticed, both post-coma and his childhood excursions to Sekoto Peak. So where Ambush Sim is concerned, I think I’ve isolated the true decision Touya made that ultimately changes his fate in the AU.

Headcanon: He leaves via the balcony and climbs down into the garden to leave the house.

Ambush Sim: He chooses not to risk injuring himself by using his old escape route in an unfamiliar body, leading him to take the hallway where Fuyumi finds him. Seriously, he could not have been all that coordinated after a three-year coma.

But anyway, have a preview.

Something I forgot to add: How do we know that’s not just the door to Touya’s room?

And that’s fair, some of the doors in the house do look like that.

However, we do see the interior door to at least one of the children’s rooms (although since there are two desks/computers in this scene, I am tempted to assume this is a play/study room for the children) is a fusuma door, not a shoji door.

But regardless, the real argument to be made about the balcony door in Touya’s is the angle of the sunlight coming in showing that’s clearly an exterior door.
