How do you know if your pet is really your familiar? I have a white cat and I wonder if he can be my familiar in some form

My mom has told me ever since I was a little kid that red cats are magical and if one makes a visit you should treat them with respect and treat them something. I never questioned it and whenever I’ve met a red cat which hasn’t been many times (like 5 in my 19 years of life) I’ve always treated them with respect.

Yesterday I moved into a new place where I’ll live for the next two weeks and today I got a surprise visit , from yes you guessed it, a red cat.

After enjoying his milk and a few cuddles I politely asked him to leave and placed him gently outside my little garden and after a while he left. Now I thought this would be the last I would see of my little guest but believe it or not he came back tonight just as I was saying good bye too one of my friends whom I was performing a cleansing on. This time I decided to investigate if he really did have ticks or not (since outdoor cats often run around in tall grass it wouldn’t  be surprising if he did). So I went outside and sat down with him in my lap and I managed to grab 3 ticks of him after about 20 minutes of struggling moving his fur out of the way. I found a 4th on his chin but he got irritated and asked me not to take it off so I left it. 

He didn’t want to leave this time and I had a rough time trying to stop him from running inside the apartment the entire time but after a few tries and agreeing that he an come back tomorrow for more cuddles I finally managed to persuade him to leave. So maybe tomorrow he’ll be back tomorrow too see me again. I felt like I had to post this story to tell other witches about this experience because animals is something that is very closely related to witchcraft and witches in general since we are often pictured with a cat or snake or owl as our familiar. I’m not saying all cats are magical but I am saying that if you get a visit from a red cat or any cat or any animal at all that you should consider that it could be magical and helping it could reslut in something positive.
