This was it. This is what her father had been keeping from her.

No. He wasn’t her father. At least, not biologically. But, did any of it mean. All she knew was that the picture she was staring at was of a man she never met. A man she hardly knew anything about, except for the stories that surrounded her childhood.

Except, all of it. All of the memories, she felt like it was all a lie.

Her hand mindlessly reached for a birth certificate. Her real birth certificate. With shaking hands, she pulled the paper closer for her to read. Yet, she still couldn’t fathom the information as true. But, it was. It was all true. She was not the identity she had grown with.

She wasn’t the daughter of Jacqueline Lewis and Alex Devane.

Her eyes scanned over the name several times, testing the words as she verbally said them. It was so foreign. Her entire life she had felt out of place. She had felt different. The answer to that longtime feeling was in the form of only one sentence. Her blood went cold, almost like she could feel the man-made substance flowing through her veins.
