Stan’s Square Records - 737 Bergen Avenue, Jersey City. I can’t say I was a regular but I was far more regular than most. Stan always remembered my name AND where we left off in our reminiscing. I first went to Stan’s long before moving to the Heights on one of my many explorations of Jersey City. Ride a bike people, know your surroundings. The first two times I was in the store I never even bought a record. We just talked. After that, Stan would make me care packages. Sometimes of Catamount stuff and sometimes stuff, as he said, that he hid from the Northern Soul guys. Stan was not your typical curmudgeonly store owner. I don’t think I was ever in the store when there wasn’t a group rehearsing in the there. Amazing vocals all harmonizing, laughing and having fun. That isn’t to say he didn’t have his moments but when he did, it was still finished off with a laugh. Sadly, it does not make sense for the shop to continue on without him. But, rather than shudder the doors and empty the contents it has been decided to open it to the public for three days for an everything must go sale, except the jukebox...stop asking about the jukebox. Friday, May 18 from 2pm to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20 from 10am to 5pm the store will be open and thousands of great records will be flying out the door. There are some real rarities and stuff you just need so do not miss this opportunity. If all works out, look for a compilation and reissue project some time in the future. #stanssquarerecords #catamountrecords #stankrause #catamount #microwaveboogie #skipjackson #skipjacksonandthenaturalexperience #jerseycity #doowop #soul #randb #hiphop #funk #vinyl #vinylrules #primitivesoundsystem #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #recordcollection #recordcollection @opencrates @dj_acl @beats4daze @steveroyster @sieteson @lookatlen @collectorscum @fleamarketfunk @pat_byrne @oldirtycoots @toddophonic @demondrums @stevieraypunk @bannedinjc
