“Raph,” Marius whined, tail swishing agitatedly. He picked at one of her metallic feathers. “Raph, come on… You can’t spend all day working…” Raphaella pulled her wing away from his fingers, whacking him with her own tail… which only gave him real feathers to play with while he laid on the rolling chair.
Tim was cleaning one of their guns on the floor, and with an octokitten in their lap, they treated the firearm with a delicate hand as they glanced up occasionally at Marius and Raphaella. They were thoroughly amused by Marius’s whining. “Mari, love, she has work to do,” Gunpowder pointed out. That just made Marius’s tail whip more aggressively as he pouted at the Master-At-Arms, a low growl emanating from the not-a-baron’s throat.
Raphaella whacked him again, this time with one of her metallic wings. “Please don’t distract me, Viol Baron. You just have to give me five minutes more, okay?”
“You already said that! Ten minutes ago!” Marius reached over and started picking at the metal feathers again. “I need Raphi cuddles, dear. I might die if I don’t get them.” Raphaella rolled her eyes.
“You can be patient, Marius. I’ve seen you be patient–let me just finish this and then we can cuddle. Promise.”
Marius groaned loudly. “I need Raphaella cuddles now! Stop working and come give me cuddles, I demand it! As the ships doctor–”
“Not a doctor,” Gunpowder absently reminded him.
“As the ship's doctor,” Marius said more insistently, “it can’t be healthy to work all day and night. Come and rest with me.”
That only warranted another whack with Raphaella’s wings.
“Give me some time to finish this, okay? Five minutes more, I promise.”
Marius huffed, and rolled off of the chair he’d been laying on. He walked over to Tim and flopped on top of them, tail wrapping around Gunpowder’s waist as the gunsman simply continued cleaning their gun. The octokitten, however, got spooked and slithered away.
“Gunpowder, my dearest, Raph isn’t paying attention to me…” Marius whined.
“Such a travesty, love,” was Tim’s response. Which only elicited a bigger pout from Marius, and Marius deciding to headbut Gunpowder, which didn’t make much of difference in Tim’s focus on their gun. “Pay attention to me.”
Tim rolled their eyes, the gears and metal clicking and hissing as they did so. “I just need to finish cleaning my gun, love. Give me a second.”
Marius groaned, partially flopping onto the ground, but remaining close enough to cuddle the gunner. “No one’s paying attention to me! This is a damn travesty! The worst tragedy we’ve ever encountered!”
“I dunno, we encounter a lot of planet-wide death and destruction,” Gunpowder pointed out, mumbling. Marius stuck his tongue out at them.
“This is the worst tragedy, as it is directly affecting me! I may die if someone doesn’t give me the proper attention I deserve, and if I do not die, I’m going to start screaming.”
“Do not scream,” Raphaella stated, though she didn’t turn away from her experiment.
“Yowl, then.”
Tim broke, and started laughing, setting aside their gun. They laid on top of Marius, whose tail subsequently wrapped around them again. “You’re so dramatic, dear, you know that?” they started running their hand through Marius’s curls, which caused the other to immediately start purring in response.
“But it works,” Marius’s words came out as a mumble, the not-a-doctor relaxing into Gunpowder’s touch.
Gunpowder chuckled, smiling at him. “Yeah, I suppose it does. For you and Jonny, at least.” Marius didn’t respond beyond purring louder as Tim made their way through the knots in his hair. “Just for you. Happy now?”
“Very,” Marius mumbled, eyes slipping closed as he started to fall asleep. Really, this was the best feeling in the world. He should scream for cuddles more often.
1. Marius taking a nap with Ivy. Best nap buddy, she just sits there for hours, reading.
2. Forehead kisses for Nastya from The Toy Soldier.
3. Raphaella and Ashes go for a fly together. (My absolute favorite drawing done so far of these collections. Also first time drawing Ashes' wings and tail, in love with how they turned out)
4. Jonny getting Brian's attention for something. (very difficult to find reference images that properly capture how feral Jonny is, so sad)
Next character study will be the one and only Gunpowder Tim.
Part 1/9 for My Mechanisms designs:details/"doodles".
First up my favorite of the mechs, the best of boys: Doctor Baron Marius von Raum!!!
Starting with simple fullbody look with his most well known outfit. With him being a catboy, Marius is fluffy and has cat feet with the toe beans. He also doesn’t wear actually shoes if he 100% has to, it's just not comfy.
Also drew how his fur pattern would look(probably going to rarely use it but its good to have) & his mechanized arm details.
More doodles with various costumes Kofi Young has worn before for Marius, specifically the purple coat(my absolute favorite sketch from this collection) , the beige coat(he had to do it to us) and the smart grey vest that was worn for a short amount of time(he was scolded by Nastya for his "repairs" made to Aurora).
Also had to draw my take on Marius's sister, Dorothea. I like to imagine she is his younger sister and naturally like her brother, she is also a cat. Then we got my idea of what my Marius would look like as human, definitely believe that sometimes the mechs need to look more human when visiting some planets. Marius doesn't like wear it because it's too stuffy.
Then more doodles. In order: First doodle I did just to figure out colors for his hat. Second doodle: Squish the boy (implied Violinspector). Third doodle: Marius with an ace flag because he is canonically ace and this fills me with so much joy.
Additional Notes
I am so thankful for Kofi Young and all the lore they have given for Marius. I am a sucker for lore.
My Marius, since he is a catboy, is red-green colorblind.
I hate drawing hats so 90% of the time I will not be drawing his hat. His mono-goggle has grown on me because it lets me not have to draw the second eye.

1.Hades Ashes with Cerberus Jonny. All I could think while working on this one was: Zeus-get your damn dog, Hades- He dont bite, Zeus *while running from Jonny*- YES HE DO!.
2. Marius wanting attention from Raphaella. He has unknowing volunteered himself to help with her next project.
3. Tim and Ivy snuggles.
4. Nastya helping Brian with maintenence. She is one of the very few he will let do this.
Side note with Brian & Nastya: ONE OF THE SMALLEST SKETCHES EVER. Don't know why I do this to myself. The size of the sketch is also why I didnt include Nastya's circuit board pattern.
