The man in this picture is Harold L. Hayes. During World War II, he was a member of the 807th Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron in Catania, Sicily. He is now the only living member of a group of nurses and medics whose plane crashed in Nazi-occupied Albania. With the help of Albanian citizens and some British, they escaped capture and crossed more than 600 miles to return to Allied territory.
