Mateo was born on August 22, 2003. He grew up with a very controlling and manipulative mother, and a father who is too nice to stop her. Almost all aspects of his life were controlled by his mother. He grew to detest her but could not do anything to stop her. They couldn’t leave even though they wanted to, because as much as they hated her, they did not know how to fend for themselves— He also felt indebted to her due to her emotional manipulation. He was involuntarily hospitalized at Ehawee Hospital after a failed attempt of taking his own life via exsanguination (bleeding out) through a self-inflicted stab wound with a kitchen knife and being found by his father. He was later admitted into Xiomara's inpatient program, and with her and the group’s support, Mateo was able to let himself break free from his mother and take back control of his life.
