The other day I visited my old college stomping grounds and was reminded that I may have actually gone to Hogwarts. This is the main commons room in The Cathedral of Learning at The University of Pittsburgh. Built in 1926, the facade is described as Late Gothic Revival style with influences of Art Deco. Does it get better than that? The commons room in particular always fascinated me, with four-story vaulted ceilings built in true Gothic style, meaning only stones were used in the arches, no steel supports. The architecture is truly breathtaking and made even more grandiose with ornate ironwork. The room is accented with hand forged iron lanterns, sconces, and a large iron gate. Above the gate reads the quote “Here is eternal spring; for you the very stars of heaven are new.” It is truly a powerful space to encounter and a magical place to explore. ✨ #Pitt #cathedraloflearning #mischiefmanaged (at Cathedral of Learning)
