( mentions of Sidney Crosby x ex!fem!reader )

This is easily the most random thing I’ve written, but when in Pittsburgh baby! I’ve had this idea for so long so I hope someone can enjoy it with me! Because in my head I can bag both Sidney Crosby and Jack Abbot… so leave me to sit with my delusion.
You have worked in the Pitt long enough to know how it functioned. How the chaos was not an if , but a when, and the burnout that came along with it.
You also knew gossip was the best form of currency. Which is why you tried so hard to hide your personal life from your coworkers.
Your relationship with the one and only Jack Abbot has been a secret for nearly a year and a half. The betting board went crazy over the two of you, trying to figure out if it was true or not.
Robby, Dana, and Lena knew, and that was more than enough coworkers.
The truth is, you didn’t care who knew at this point. You were both secure enough that the hospital gossip didn’t affect you.
The paper work was signed in Gloria’s office right before you moved in together a few months ago, and still the residents and nurses alike were none the wiser.
So, when you walked in an hour early for hand off from the day shift shoulder to shoulder with Jack, you never thought your past would come back to haunt you.
“Is it true?” Perlah bombarded you as you approached the nurses station.
You let out a deep breath, “hi Perlah, my day was fine. Thank you for asking, how was the day shift?”
You pick up the chart in front of you without so much as looking up at her.
She scoffed, “yeah yeah yeah, but is it true you’re dating Sidney Crosby? Pittsburgh royalty?”
You nearly coughed at the implication, “I’m sorry, where did you hear this?”
She smirked, “…princess googled you… and I may have been there… with Ahmad as well…”
Your jaw went slack, you placed the tablet down. You could feel Jack tense beside you, and you didn’t miss the way Princess and Perlah’s eyes noticed his subtle change in expression.
“What do you mean ‘am I dating Sidney Crosby’?” You asked.
Jack turned his head so that he was facing you, a small smirk on his face.
“We were hunting for insider information on who you might be banging because you’ve been in such a good mood recently,” Princess started, as if that wasn’t insulting.
“A good mood you say?” Jack asked playfully.
Perlah nodded and continued where Princess left off, “when we looked up your name, a few grainy paparazzi pictures popped up of you holding hands with the hockey god himself.”
“Gwapo siya” Princess said fanning herself, Perlah nodding in agreement.
“Did you look at the date of this photo?” You asked with a raised brow.
Jack was still looking at you, and others decided to tune into the conversation as well.
Langdon, Robby, Dana, Donnie, Shen, and Ahmad were all around the nursing station now.
Princess flipped her phone, showing an extremely grainy picture of your hand in Sidney Crosby’s as you walked into a restaurant with him.
You scoffed, throwing your hands up in exasperation over the entire situation.
Langdon nearly fainted, while Donnie lifted his hand to high five you.
You shook your head at him, crossing your arms over your chest.
Princess flipped the phone back to her and Perlah, “it says December!” She continues scrolling, “…of 2017.” She said shyly.
You put your hands on your hips, “I’m no math whiz but I believe that makes it….. nine years old!”
Princess and Perlah rolled their eyes at your sarcasm.
“Wait wait wait wait wait…” Shen now cut in, “you dated… Sidney Crosby?”
You shrugged, “I interned with the teams medical staff one summer during their off season and he… took a liking to me.” You said boastingly, now that it’s out there, you might as well brag.
Langdon’s jaw dropped, “well, you have to tell us more now! What was he like? Why did it end? Can you introduce me? Does this make you like the ex princess of Pittsburgh? Were you his good luck charm for the cup in 2016?”
You waved him off, “it’s nobody’s business…” you looked around at all their curious faces, “it lasted less than two years… our careers didn’t exactly mesh. And that’s all you’ll get out of me.”
They all groaned, signaling Robby to clap his hands together, “and let’s do hand off day shift! That’s enough gossip.”
Everyone began whispering and dispersing. You stood there with Princess and Perlah. Jack was still smirking beside you, biting back a laugh.
You sighed, “if you must know,” you said quietly, gaining the attention of Princess, Perlah, and Ahmad, their ears perking, “I am in a good mood because I am banging and dating Jack.” You gestured to the man beside you who was now beat red and stunned at what you just said.
Ahmad jumped up in excitement, while Princess was groaning.
“Now, you can either tell everyone…. Or hold onto the secret a little longer and change your bets to split the winnings with me,” you narrowed your eyes, “it’s only right since you just embarrassed me in front of the entire day and night shift staffs.”
The three of them exchanged a look, and Princess nodded, “you have a deal.”
They all turned towards the security office to rearrange the betting board.
You turned so that you were facing Jack, expression softening the second your eyes meet his.
“Enjoy your fifteen minutes of fame, sweetheart?” He asked jokingly.
You laughed, “fifteen minutes I definitely didn’t ask for,” you shook your head, “I’m honestly surprised it took them all this long to find that picture.”
“So you know everyone is going to know about us now, right?” He asked, raising a brow.
You smiled, “yeah. I guess we have Sidney to thank for that.”
He laughed, his eyes crinkling in the corners as he smiled, “I definitely won’t be thanking your ex boyfriend for anything, even if he is the captain of my favorite team.”
You smiled at him, “I’m ready for everyone to know,” you said, letting the tone shift from playful to serious.
He nodded, “me too.”
You exhaled, resisting the urge to kiss him right at the nurses station.
“Abbot! Let’s go!” Robby shouted from across the room.
“Coming!” Abbot shouted back.
“I’ll see you during our coffee break,” he whispered, “love you.”
He turned towards Robby to finish hand off, and you were left blushing by the nurses station, bringing your attention back to your chart.
“So, you really can’t introduce me?” Franks voice came from behind you, making you startle.
“Jesus Frank,” you said clutching your chest.
“Not even a puck? Anything,” he pleaded.
You rolled your eyes at him, not justifying him with an answer.
“Ugh, okay I’ll drop it… for now,” he said pulling his Penguins hat on and turning to leave the Pitt.
Jack had known about your past with the hockey player, so you guess it’s only fair that everyone else knew too. At least that’s what you’ll tell yourself… but that’s just another night at the Pitt.
