I usually shy from hard hitting nonfiction that I know will crush me at least a little. But I couldn't pass on this book "apart". It's a journalism/memoir/documentary poem/lyric essay/jeremiad hybrid that also incorporates photography to dissect the South Africa apartheid and white guilt and it's privilege. I was curious and decided to look the author up and she is the co-director of the image text MFA program at @ithacacollege. It's a low residency graduate program that combines the art of writing and photography. It was really interesting to read about and it's suited for creative professionals. I really enjoy @mooncake729's invocation: an essay and her other hybrid works so this would be a really cool degree to do! If anything, I'll have a lot of interesting things to read just looking at the work of past and current faculty and students hehe I saw how to make books uhh book at the @bkbookfest years ago and wanted it but I'm glad I can get it now! I love the illustrations and I always wanted to hand make books! Hopefully I'll actually use it this summer haha. #davidmarkson's work intrigues me but I have yet to read it. But this was only $5 so I had to get it and I love reading people's letter exchanges. I'm a snoop that way hehe A year ago I was so bummed when I didn't go out for #indiebookstoreday and get this. I love #roxanegay's blog and to read her amazing words on literature is fantastic! What a steal at $2!
