by your definition, does your feminism include trans women ?
So, heres where we get into the nitty gritty. In my opinion, trans women can and should participate in feminism. Everyone can, so long as they fight for the liberation of women. But feminism isnt FOR them. You see what I mean?
Obviously, it doesnt mean trans people dont have to deal with the issues of oppressive gender stereotypes. I think patriarchy, gender steriotypes, and toxic masculinity are more of our shared issues. Because men can also suffer to a degree under patriarchy. In that they are pigeon holed into very restrictive emotional boxes and are discouraged (often violently) from doing anything ‘feminine’. Its detrimental to everyone who isnt a straight white man really. Feminism shares the goal of removing patriarchy and these cultural ideas, but that isnt ALL of it.
Feminism is for the liberation for people who are born female and the specific issues and oppression they face because of that. A trans women, even if she identifies her body as female or has sex reassignment surgery, is never going to have those experiences. Shes never going to grow up being fed the lies young women are fed as children. That you need to be quiet, smile, cross your legs, get out of the way, be thin, and ALWAYS appeal to men. And know that, no matter what you do, everything you do either makes you a slut or a prude and both can be excuses for violence against you. Shes never going to need to deal with abortion, cervical cancer, maternity, and any other female sex specific health conditions. And thats not even going into the injustices that some other cultures outside of the western world participate in. It becomes a horror show.
