#squad: who’s friends with who? what are the squad dynamics like? 

ooh boy I hope you’re ready for a long infodump. this isn’t organized in any way I’m just kinda writing stuff down as it comes to mind. also didn’t edit it at all.

under the cut because it’s long. hobby is down there too

so the main squad is marie, kitty, jenny, caitlin, and polly. marie and kitty have known each other the longest. (fun fact the mk in mk universe stands for marie and kitty.) kitty’s autistic and she has trouble figuring out social stuff sometimes but marie helps explain things. marie also serves as sort of a therapist for the rest of the group, along with caitlin, because those two are the best at dealing with other people’s emotions. on the other hand, jenny and polly are the captains of the making bad decisions team, though marie often joins in. polly is great at repressing emotions and jenny tries but never lasts long. 

jenny and caitlin are the weirdest dynamic. so in eighth grade on halloween jenny dressed up as bb-8 and caitlin dressed up as a star trek officer and they got into a huge fight about which series was better and decided to never speak to each other again. a week later they figured out this was really stupid but nearly everyone in the grade knew about it by then and they couldn’t just start talking again. so for the next two years they pretended to absolutely hate each other, and it was easier for them to just distance themselves from each other. 

then one day sophomore year (10th grade) they decided to officially end the conflict and they stayed up all night together watching the original trilogy and then as much of star trek: the next generation as they could get through before jenny fell asleep from drinking too much coffee. somewhere towards the end they ended up kissing. they pretended this didn’t happen for two days and then ended up kissing again in the “sophomore alcove” and polly and kitty walked in on them. rest of the grade still doesn’t know they’re a couple but they aren’t keeping up the secret that well.

also because I self project their school is pretty small and has like 200 people per grade. so there’s no real popularity hierarchy since if you’ve been there for more than two years everyone knows who you are. that’s why everyone knows about the caitlin and jenny feud thing (although they don’t really care about it anymore)

also zoe is new this year. jenny was like ah, she has gay hair and lead her into the group. she’s not really part of it yet but she and jenny get along pretty well. both of them are trans girls and jenny’s been out for a while whereas zoe just came out. zoe’s a lesbian and polly is also a lesbian so they have that in common too. zoe doesn’t really join in on the bad decisions at first and she prefers to watch from the sidelines and laugh but later on she joins in too.

also phil is mostly just friends with marie, and marie spends a lot of her time away from the group with him. kitty has a huge crush on him and thinks she’s being subtle. she’s not. he’s really anxious and stuff and that’s why basically the only person he hangs out with is marie.

oh also marie is in cast and caitlin is on costumes and everyone else is on stage crew so that puts some distance between them but not much.

also ashley and malley exist. they aren’t part of the squad though. ashley is also in cast and malley is polly’s sister. ashley has a crush on marie and malley has a crush on ashley. ashley doesn’t interact with the rest of the squad much and malley really only witnesses their Dictatorship sessions (whole nother text wall) held in her basement.

hobby: what do they love? what captivates them? what are their passions?

marie: really likes acting. she’s great at imitating accents and while her dancing skills are not the best, her voice more than makes up for it. she also really likes history and conspiracy theories. sometimes the squad plays a game where marie tells them a historical “fact” and they have to guess whether it’s true or she’s making it up. kitty is usually not allowed to play because she’s already heard almost all the stories.

kitty: technology is her main special interest. she has a whole workshop of old, broken devices that people bring her, and she likes to mess with them to try to make new, functioning creations. her phone is a weird mashup of several phone parts to have all the features she likes. she’s also pretty good at programming and html but not so much at graphic design.

polly: writing. they carry around a notebook in one of their jacket’s many pockets at all times as well as several pens. they are constantly scribbling down new story ideas and writing poems. someone once dared them to speak in nothing but iambic pentameter for the entire english class and they not only succeeded but continued for the rest of the day. they’re an awful artist though.

ashley: music and art. she almost never takes off her headphones, and she’s always sketching.

zoe: art and running. she makes a whole lot of money of furry commissions but swears she isn’t a furry. she’s also an amazing runner and has scored in the top five of almost every cross country meet she’s been in.

jenny: uhhh I self project onto her pretty hard. she plays clarinet. idk. 

caitlin: uhhhhhhhh she was originally based on one of my friends so uhhhh she likes science? plays flute. sports? idk

also everyone;s in band or chorus because again. self projection.

also a few days ago it snowed and you could hear the snow hitting the ground and that was pretty nice too

oh also cats purring but that’s more of the vibrations than the sound

oh yeah definitely, it’s kinda hard to think of a list though

sometimes the texture of my skin really bothers me? like I have dumped water on my hands before because I hate how my fingers feel. also napkins and towels sometimes. just like dry stuff I guess
