Dorset Knob throwing is big – in Dorset!

The “sport” of Dorset Knob throwing is proving to be very popular, particularly here in Dorset.

That popularity was demonstrated as over 5,000 people attended Dorset Knob Throwing and Food Festival in Cattistock.

For the uninitiated Dorset Knobs are unique savoury biscuits which have been made by Moores in Bridport since 1880.

The idea of actually throwing them was the brainchild of Nigel Collins who witnesses a Yorkshire Pudding throwing contest up in the northern county.

He told the media: “”We used to throw knobs occasionally as a child because they’re the size of a golf ball, so the whole thing gelled from there.

“Most of the contest is taken in good heart and there is no food wastage. Everything that is left over – even the broken bits on the ground – goes to feed local chickens.”

Meanwhile, the contest was won by Dave Morrison with a Dorset Knob lob of 71 feet.
