Hey! You don't know me of course but I love your blog and your gifs. I'm brand new to gifmaking and wondered if I could get some advice? How do you crop/colour gifs to make neater, better-looking gifsets?
well, as i always suck at explanations whenever i get these questions, i usually point people towards itsphotoshop’s tutorials for beginners. and their tutorial on how to make high-quality gifs. also, dimensions are important! (though that hasnt been updated to include that the size limit for ALL gifs now, including 500px gifs, is 2mb)
it usually comes down to the quality of the thing you’re giffing though. 720p-1080p resolutions are always the best. so when the show/movie you are giffing come in those qualities, your gifs are always going to be neater. it’s when it’s low-quality that you really have to work at it.
i made a simple tutorial HERE. except lately i’ve been playing with selective coloring a lot more and have learned how to better use it. i got a lot of tips from this tutorial HERE (keep in mind though, that tutorial is for screencaps, it’s a bit different for gifs cause gifs move but hopefully you’ll find something useful!) and i’ve made and shared a few psds HERE. if you download those, maybe you can play around with the coloring and hopefully learn how to tweak some of the layers. that’s part of how i learned too!
i hope this is somewhat helpful. i seriously cannot explain things for the life on me. i just click and click and CLICK around on photoshop until i learn things. and i read A LOT of tutorials. itsphotoshop really is a great resource.
