A cautionary tale | {aurora & ted}
The bitter wind lapping at the exposed skin of her wrists was a welcome feeling. It made wearing the heavy wool coat with the upturned collar all the less conspicuous as Aurora moved through the busy London streets, trying to blend in. A scarf shielded the lower portion of her face from the noxious assault, doubling as a way to conceal her identity, dark hair tumbling in easy curls behind her as she moved the only identifying factor to her persona. In the wake of the attacks on the Order, caution was the only thing the brunette wanted to exercise. Any one of them could be a target. There was no telling what sort of intel had been stolen. Names, meeting places... it would only be a matter of time before they were ambushed, and Aurora did not want to be a sitting duck. It was why she’d been hesitant to agree to this meeting in the first place. It was why her stomach churned uneasily as she approached Ted’s flat.
It was his idea to meet here, as they had on occasion to discuss the latest intel gathered by the inconspicuous witch. She supposed it wasn’t that big of a risk to show up here on a semi-regular basis. After all, they were close in age. It wasn’t a huge leap to assume they might’ve been friends in their school days, or through work, or some other tie. Still, the moment she came round to his door and gave a brisk tap tap tap, she couldn’t shake the feeling of insurmountable fear as it crept up the back of her neck, setting the fine hair there on end. The feeling of dread only intensified when he didn’t immediately open the door, and Aurora realized he must’ve been out on an errand and running late. She would’ve rolled her eyes if she wasn’t quite so uptight in that moment. After all, he could have been taken----or worse.
It took everything in her to keep from pacing while she waited, rubbing leather-clad fingers together for warmth and cursing Ted’s lack of punctuality under her breath; hoping it was just that. The gentle weight of her wand pressing up against her was the only comfort she had in those unnecessarily tense moments, but then he finally appeared, and she breathed a quiet sigh of relief. “Where’ve you been?” She questioned him gruffly, “you’re late.” As if that wasn’t obvious. It was out of character for Aurora to be quite so frank, but given the situation, she couldn’t help but feel a little betrayed by the way he’d thrown caution to the wind; a little bit raw over the fact that he’d made her worry.
