We had 1978 model. Two of them.

It was a reliable bike and great for new riders to get a feel of riding without worrying too much about shifting but it didn't have the pick up of normal 5 speed manual shift of the same model- so it was rather boring bike to me. The same model was sold as KISS bike by the band. KISS with all those KISS graphics on.

We ended up selling both to a good guy from Nebraska.

Forgot to post these. 1978 Honda CB400A Hawk.

Kind of collectors' item. It has two cylinders sohc with Hondamatic. Yes it's semi automatic. There's no clutch. The left lever is actually a rear brake, tagged as parking brake with locking device. You just lift the foot lever up to put in gear. It didn't have the pull and excitement of a manual shifting bike. As much as I appreciated the old school looks, it was least fave bike in my garage.

CM version of this bike ( cruiser style) was used in the movie, "Purple Rain". With a huge Vetter cowling and Prince's signature color, purple, Prince operated the bike in the film.

Prince wasn't the only musician who got an eye on this automatic bike. The band Kiss attempted to make this model into "Honda Kissmobile" with their logo pasted on. It never really made it into production.
