We need to honour the source of our existence. #Repost @cbcthenational with @get_repost ・・・ Autumn Peltier has a simple message: water is alive, has a spirit and needs to be respected — and she’s bringing that message to the United Nations on Thursday for World Water Day. • The 13-year-old from Wikwemikong Unceded First Nation, Ont. is a water advocate. Following in the tradition and ceremony of her elders, she uses her voice to call for safe drinking water and clean waterways for all. • The teenager is already an accomplished activist. In 2016, she told Justin Trudeau she was unhappy with his pipeline choices at the AFN’s annual winter gathering. She was also nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize in 2017. • Having a high profile hasn’t always been easy for Autumn: she says she’s been verbally and physically bullied by other kids. It’s also been hard for her mother Stephanie, a single parent to her two daughters, who has had to personally finance some of Autumn’s activism. • But those difficulties won’t stop Autumn: “For me, I'm going to keep on doing this work for the rest of my life... I hope that I can make a change, and that's why I'm doing it because I want one day for First Nations communities to be able to drink their water.
