Since there's a wave of people writing how cool you are,,,,, I wanna say a great thank you for all your pathologic art. I've been rereading the danblock zine since February, and it makes me... feel... feelings.... It's so tender ughhhhh. It's like being hugged when you are very sad, by another very sad person. Тоскливо и радостно одновременно.
i really like that you chose those words specifically to describe the feeling you get from my art of them because i feel like "sad person hugging another sad person" is also all i ever draw them doing. speaking of which, here is another picture of them hugging
your danblock art is everything to me i get so happy every time i see it on my feed. also really like seeing your original work your style is soo good…
thank you anon dearest it means a lot. here's some more of it for you
Adding into prev anon:
THANK YOUUUUUUUUU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
Me and my partner are MASSIVE SMTIVA fans and the lack of Krishna art makes us sad! You ARE an oasis in the desert and you do amazing art!!!!!!!
thank you very much ^_^ have more krishnas (& others) from magma
I really love your patho art, It’s absolutely wonderful your artstyle is absolutely stunning as well!! I was wondering if you’ve ever drawn any of the women from the games think all of them would look beautiful in your style. Also who is your fav from the game outside of any of the healers ofc.
you probably did not intend it that way but i like how this ask is very subtly dragging me for not drawing enough women lol (this is a joke, i'm not mad at anon). i haven't really drawn many of patho characters outside of the healers + emissaries in general (haha) but you can look at what i have drawn on my old art blog, here.
my favorites are obviously the emissaries & i like them even more than i like the healers as a trio (and i feel like that fact is also very, very obvious lol), but i do find most of the other characters very appealing either design wise or narratively or both, but strictly in the realm of patho classic. i am a serious p2 disliker but you didn't come here to hear me being a hater so here's a yulieva drawing for you because i love yulia but i'm guilty of barely ever drawing her before
I noticed that you are a Russian who uses They/ It, what Russian pronouns do you use?
Ive been looking for options since I started studying Russian.
in russian i use he/him (он) exclusively because i personally find it more convenient grammatically. the singular they/them does not exist in modern russian the same way it does in english; the closest thing we have to it is using the "royal we", i.e мы, when talking in first person, i.e мы сделали, and the polite singular you (вы) which is the same as the plural you, i.e вы сделали, when referring to someone you're talking to. when referring to someone else, you'd use the plural they (они) with the plural third person verbs (сделали), which is correct grammatically, but historically has been used to refer to a singular person only in regards to nobles (who use the royal we). most people i've seen use they/them in russian speaking spaces however use the plural third person verbs (сделали) in conjunction with singular first person (я) and singular second person (ты) pronouns , i.e я сделали, ты сделали, which is grammatically incorrect, but is fine if you're fine with it; i respect other people's choice to use it. it irks me personally though so i don't want to use it for myself. but it probably won't sound that jarring to you because you're not a native speaker so it's a good option to consider.
i feel ambivalent about russian it (оно) (the pronoun, specifically) because there's a long history of it being used as a slur for trans/gnc people (source: i have been called that many times in the past lol) but i don't care about it enough to reclaim it. besides in every other case but nominative it's the same as he (он), which sort of defeats the point if you're looking for something that lacks / conveys unspecified gender. which is why i like the idea of using something (что-то / чего-то) instead, i.e "я спросил(а) у чего-то", with the verbs being gendered like for it (оно), i.e "что-то мне ответило". i wouldn't mind other people referring to me as such but i'm not yet at the right level of gender enlightenment to use it-verbs in regards to myself. besides, the gendered verbs themselves are not something i feel very strongly about; i'm much more touchy with gendered nouns like man / woman / boy / girl etc. unless it's for the bit obviously.
in any case, the language is constantly evolving. you might have more luck asking someone who is younger and/or more involved in russian speaking queer spaces than me. i hear the kids are working hard on illegally importing neos these days (good natured joke)
Do you have any tips with getting better with anatomy and coloring? Your art is SO gorgeous i love seeing it on my fyp
hi anon, thank you very much! sorry for taking so long to reply, i wasn't sure what to say. i don't consider myself especially proficient when it comes to either anatomy or coloring haha, i would say i have a basic understanding of them both but no special tricks up my sleeve that i could share with you. colors are especially tricky for me unless we're talking specifically about color matching, which i think i'm pretty good at, but rendering and painting are not my forte, i don't really have the patience for it. i love looking at and studying it in other people's art, but unless i'm pressuring myself to color, i always gravitate back to monochrome inking. i just love the simplicity of clean lines, you know? i really enjoy doing lineart.
with that being said, what i usually see recommended by other artists (and what i personally found quite educational) is the morpho series by michel lauricella. there's a bunch of them on the internet archive:
anatomy for artists
fat and skin folds
muscled bodies
joint forms and muscular functions
skeleton and bone reference points
clothing folds
face, head, and neck
hands and feet
simplified forms
mammals
anatomy for sculptors (better quality) (this one is not of the morpho series, and is by different authors, but the graphs in it are pretty extensive)
i haven't read all of them & even those i have looked at i don't exactly read; i'm a visual learner so mostly i just look at the images. that also extends beyond anatomy books; i talked about this in a similar post before, but what works for me is always looking at things with the intent to learn. i use myself as a reference quite often (particularly for hands), and i people-watch anytime i can, which is all of the time.
i can't really recommend anything on the color front besides similarly just looking at things, looking for art you vibe with, learning from and imitating others... i've saved some art-related posts over the years, some of which go into color matching, maybe you'll find some of them useful (please don't follow that blog though)...
at the end of the day being an artist is just having a meat grinder in your brain that processes everything you see, moreso everything you enjoy, into one big pile of goo that makes up your artistic self... and you have to nurture the goo by continously feeding it concepts and visuals... that is the only wisdom i can share with you. i can't help but get a little philosophical when talking about art because i struggle to see it from a purely technical standpoint, which is why i'm really bad at making tutorials or explaining my drawing process. but hopefuly you'll find my words at least somewhat helpful!
i just remembered back when you made that one artemy shimeji (i still got it on my laptop, found it while looking for something for my thesis) and since when i attribute you with pathologic i attribute you with danblock for whatever reason i had imagined you made danblock shimejis and i had a visual image of a specific thing in which. they both sat together and shared a cigarete all kawaiily and chibily... i wish i could send images on anon but maybe your visualization of this might be better since youre the megamind of them. just a fun thought. dont know why my brain congured up and even made me believe it was real lol
this ask is so so funny thank you very much for sending it. danblock shimejis real in our hearts and minds...
