It had been hours. Or was it days? Gavin wasn’t sure at this moment. All he knew was someone new appeared, someone he knew. Thank god. It was Erik. He looked at him and gave a weak smile. They said they’d leave him for dead and Erik found him. “Hey, help?” He was far too wear to break from the ropes himself.
“This is one of the best days of my life.”
“And why would that be?”
"Hey boss can I borrow like uhh.. fifteen dollars? I'll pay you back, I promise. I just need a bit for something."
Geoff shrugged, grabbing a hundred and handing it to him. “Keep the extra for yourself. You don’t have to pay me back.”
"coming out trans"
“You’re not alone there.” He paused. “Thank you... for trusting me with this information. I’m going to cherish it.”
“Oh hey, thanks for checking in, I’m still a piece of garbage.”
“You’re not a piece of rubbish! You’re much better than that.”

She’s more like a ghost than anything nowadays. Blink once, and she’s gone; seen again only when she feels like it. Sometimes it’s half an hour from then, and sometimes it’s a series of days—thirty, one hundred, and then he’ll stop keeping track because she’s not as much of a creature of habit once assumed. Though, admittedly, if she could create some-sort-of pattern for her unannounced appearances and visits, he’d blatantly appreciate it. This is about the second time in a row that she’s managed to catch him in a ratty tank-top and food-stained sweatpants and, quite frankly, he’s really starting to feel like she’s doing it on purpose.
“Both?” Is what he finally mumbles through his bleary state, scrubbing the entirety of his eyesocket with the calloused palm of his hand. It’s meant to be a joke, and a stupid one at that, but the more he starts feeling awake, the more he starts considering it being a possible reality. “Definitely both.”
With Viktor under one arm, tail a-waggin’, he moves from the doorframe to allow her access into the room. With his other hand, free from occupying, Jae pushes the mop of black hair out of his eyes and exhibits a loud, unobstructed yawn. Once finished, he only sort-of closes the door behind him. It ‘clinks’ against the frame, but pushes against the threshold, slowly opening all the more.
It’s getting colder now. The sun no longer warms her skin, and it almost makes her sad until she reminds herself that really, the cold doesn’t affect her anyway. Ah yes. The perks of being a machine. No colds. No rashes, no... nothing. Out of habit she sniffles--or maybe it’s because the whole way here that’s all she’d seen people do. Sniffle like their lives depended on it. The tip of her nose dusted pink, Violet stares down a dishevelled Jae. Somehow, she’d gotten used to him coming to the door half asleep, and only partly presentable. It wasn’t shocking anymore, but there was a novelty about it that she liked and so she doesn’t insult him as much as she could. “I can’t say I’m not surprised sunshine” that’s a new one. Even she’s not so sure about it. Then again what would be better? Honey? No, too sweet. Poppet? No, too school nurse. Whatever, Sunshine it was. “a little worried about the carpet--” wait, did he even have carpet anymore? She trails off, her attention moving from his lethargic features to the (fat) dog hooked around his arm. “can he even breathe like that?” she asks. Gloved hand reaching out to scratch awkwardly behind his ears, her elbow subsequently digging into Jae’s ribs. Oops. “can you even breathe like that?”

[Dialogue from The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss]
“False modesty does not impress me,” mumbled the alien, doe eyes briefly glancing up at some idol variety show playing on a mounted flat-screen overhead as she lazily mixed together her freshly ordered bibimbap. It was a small, cafeteria-style restaurant where one ordered up front and picked up their food once their number was called and pretty much just sat down wherever they wanted to eat it. Lucy naturally gravitated towards the table nearest the television, though her hopes of catching a random drama as she ate were dashed by some obnoxious, special variety program. She didn’t actually know what made it special, but judging by how some of the other customers cooed when a handsome face appeared on screen, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this must be some popular group.
