Hey. That sucks about the roommate issue but I did want say that it may be that therapist isn't peddling actual cbt. (I went through it in Canada, with a fully trained and licenced Dr. ) We used the official workbook (anxiety) and there was no higher power bullshit. I'm an atheist and that wouldn't have flown but it did help me out. I can also see why it might be less helpful for you! Just sharin!
I had the opportunity to ask her if she got any homework, and apparently she did not.
The only results I’ve turned up online for his exact phrasing (“distress tolerance”) came up with DBT stuff, and there’s a lot of baggage with it that just frustrates me.
Like I’m meant to talk myself down from things and make lifestyle changes to improve my resilience and make lists of problems I’m grateful I don’t have and it’s like-
I did all of that already. I’ve been in therapy for five years. My therapist got me past this shit ages ago. We are no longer trying to positive think our way out of conflicts. We’re on Adv. Productive Rage. Harnessing Mania for Fun and Profit. I get validations from my therapist on the variety of, “Have you considered you might be frustrated because they’re acting in bad faith?”
Like my therapist is very focused on me being aggressive productively and I find that CBT is more listening to waves and finding it in ur heart to understand ur abusers are ppl and why they might think their thoughts and they’re valid so maybe the problem is just, like, the way ur approaching ur feelings, man.
My therapist is like, no, you’re right and you should say so, fuck ‘em.
I like my therapist. He’s Team Z. I feel seen and supported.
This new guy. Me having DBT homework and her not having anything constructive to work on in the month since our first session?
