Cathal is dedicated to teaching and to the development of the next generation of pianists, through his daily teaching and through initiatives such as the WCM International Piano Festival and Competition. He is an Associate Professor of Piano at the Arizona State University School of Music in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. Previous University positions have included at the University of Memphis in TN, Bucknell University in PA, the National University of Ireland, Queen's University in Belfast, and the University of Michigan as a Teaching Assistant. In addition to his position as Professor, he has taught master classes and lectured at prestigious Universities and Conservatories in the U.S., Canada, China, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, Portugal, Bulgaria, Spain, Colombia, U.K. and Ireland. He is very active as an online teacher and in advancing technology for online learning. In Phoenix, he teaches a home studio of talented young pianists of all levels, and his students have won prizes in MTNA, State, National and International Competitions. In 2020, he initiated the first historic four-way connection using Yamaha Disklavier pianos in 4 different cities at the same time, something that was featured on PBS News.
