lots of artists are helping me nowadays, i've sent questions to people who tommy&tubbo art i really like and i'm always shaken by the fact they actually answer
TW: Mature (not Explicit) level descriptions of sex.
so, the main concept here is them not being able to ignore their lingering wounds when the expectations of what to do together when they would be a couple mash in
it is typical drama enough, but what i wanted to accomplish was the uniqueness of them in this situation
take Tommy, who has said he is abhorred by the flesh from sex stuff but not the pleasure of sex (which, same Tommy, fucking same), combined with his comments about liking to play, i believe he would be more prone to either not do things at all or doing things differently, but in a gut instinct way kinda way.
while Toby has maintained much more reclusive comments on his sex life; yes, he jokes about feet, old daddies, twinks and putting things up his ass, but all this is always contradicted by other comments, like finding it funny that there are people that actually like these things or calling it gross; the only constant comment we have is that he likes to hook up, likes his privacy and has difficulty with intimacy.
though i'm doubtful of their pro activeness to actually explore the underlying systems that set those expectations of how things should be, given the incentives to just keep going and never stopping in their career surrounded by everyone and their mother telling they are so lucky.
which lets me believe that it would reach a moment where they would be stumped, set out to do something and fail in ways that straightforwardly talking it out would be straining and too sudden, like so the open wound analogy.
as for the situation itself.
if you know the layout of the previous tubbo room before he moved in with jonnaay, the only directional light that can come from this angle is from the bathroom
they are in their sleeping attire, just before bed, (Tommy sleeps naked as far as i know).
things heat up, Toby's shirt is removed and thrown away. both of them are eager.
they follow their feelings and Toby starts to guide things more as Tommy doesn't have more experience than kissing and hand stuff with guys.
Toby says to pickup a condom and lube that were hidden the bathroom, and Tommy hadn't thought about it, he picks up just following him, cause things work out right, it's what everyone says is supposed to happen, he does want to feel it.
and when he goes to pick it up, he also remembers he had stored some costume stuff for a comedy show in his backpack, he thinks it would be fun and special to use.
Tommy walks past the past to the kitchen/living room area to his backpack, Toby asks what's going on and if he's okay and Tom answer an excited noise as he comes back with toy angel wings, Toby is surprised and Tommy is really into it for some reason, he makes jokes about being his angel when he is back in bed.
They get handsy again and escalating what they want to feel in each other, Toby asks for more and they start to use what had been picked up in the bathroom.
Tommy agrees and is teasing as he does it, Toby finds it endearing and responds in the same level. Yet Tommy keeps going, he starts doing bigger moves and jokes, playing with how he looked with the wings, more more.
He starts jumping around in bed and teasing in different ways, and the concept of what they were about to do with the supplies starts fading in Toby's head, the momentum changes and Toby sees what is happened, the rythm and routine he usually does with this stuff gone astray.
He sees Tommy doing his stuff and stop responding to it, a scary feeling within him growing, like realizing you are in danger. But he knew he wasn't.
Slowly the pain in his throat grows he is unable to control and his eyes begin to sting.
Tommy takes a longer moment to notice, but when he does he stops right in his track. He asks for Toby's name multiple time and what is wrong.
Toby answers he doesn't know.
and so it ends with Tommy covering himself with the first of his underwear he could find and washing his hands in the bathroom before he sits right beside him in bed but not too close, feeling lost and peeled open, and hand stretching to reach Toby but know better that to touch him. was all this fault of his awkward and annoying self?
and Toby hugging the teddy bear that he left as decoration on top of the bed board, eyes de-focused trying to soothe himself.

apart from what was already stated, the symbology of toy wings and red underpants for Tommy stem mostly from the mythos most of his acted characters had, that i do think mark as a reflection of his real life personality.
and for Toby, he talks very highly of his family and seems remarkably content with his childhood (also he has talked about not wanting to make plushie merch cause he has a teddy bear from when he was a child that he is incredibly attached to), i try to imply a regression and attack of this condition with the attachment to it.

for the tools to make it,
3d model of tobys room on blender to iterate angles and light for the storytelling
pencil drawing on paper transferred with grid method to sketch facial expressions and clothing details
and then traced over on rebelle 7, then painted with a round opacity/blend brush for everything apart from hair and the wings saddle that used a flat brush, all on a 16" drawing monitor
took me about two months of free time from idea to finalized piece.
for someone that likes to joke about lusting jonnaay or hooking up with the brighton crew so much, i can only imagine the reasons why this so viciously hit the nerve for Tubbo
does anyone else see this? the way he looks and sounds at Tommy for this?
"how dare you do this!? i dreamt of it every single day for months! you fucker! years! learned, slowly, how to deal with it! and now, you play it as a joke?!?"
it's such a strong reaction for a group of friends that's no stranger of displaying affection towards each other, i urge u to compare it
why can't tubbo be seen enjoying tommy's touch by the center of the camera? why? the few cases we have are always preceded or followed by a "i hate this"/"absolutely not" comment
i mean, what are his fears? what does he think will happen?
