Neil: Nikki!?
Nikki: hey guys! guess what I’m not dying, it was just--
Without any warning Max and Neil grabs her and pulled her into a big hug. Nikki who was absolutely confused of the situation stood still.
She can hear small hics and sniffs from both of them, but she couldn’t make up any of the words the two murmured. Suddenly she felt small droplets against her skin, she looked up a bit and found both of them in tears.
Nikki: guys? are you.. crying?
Max: Shut up.
Neil: How can you say that, if you’re crying too, Nikki.
Nikki realizing that she was also full of tears hugged the two tighter. The small girl trembled, shouting from the top of her lungs, words that stung every camper, including David and Gwen in the heart.
Nikki: I don’t wanna lose you, I don’t want to lose any of you, please stay with me! please!
There was no point in acting strong, they were kids.
Nikki wasn’t scared of death, she was scared of not being part of her friends lives till the end. And she clearly knew that, but she didn’t want to “end” it all with sad faces so she acted like it was a-okay. but for Max and Neil who have been with her since day one of camp, knew it all.
Upon hearing the news from Nikki, they did not hesitate to show her how much she means to them.
Its guys night out again and Nikki doesn’t want to be left alone.
Nikki: Fine! JUST GO ALREADY, leave me!
Max: We’ve been trying to for the past hour!
Neil: Nikki, You’ve been holding on to us for too long..
max is already turning red from all the affection.
Max (struggling) I.. AM NOT..AFFECTED BY THIS..
Neil: is there something bothering you, Nikki?
Nikki: Its just that... I don’t wanna be left alone again while you guys have all the fun! i wanna spend some time with you too. You guys are always at Davids house, partying with Nerf, Harrison, Dolph, Preston and even Space kid!
Neil: (whispers to max) Do we still call him Space Kid?
Max: Yup.
Nikki: And I’m stuck here cause all of the girls from the camp are in vacation... what I mean is.. I miss the old us.. the trio who goes adventuring!
but...you’re right.. you guys should enjoy your time at “Davids Guys Night Out Bizzare”...sorry for all the.. affection.
Max: Neil.. cancel it.
Neil: what?
Max: you heard what I said, ‘cause today will be “the gangs night out”!
Neil: You know what, that’s a great idea, Max!
Nikki: you guys mean it?
Max: The Gangs night out is something we wouldn’t miss for the world, Nik’
And besides whatever Davids plan is, it doesn’t compare to anything that we three do.
Neil: Any of you guys up for LASER TAG!
Nikki: YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!
(HUG TIME)
Neil: Now who’s going to call David to say we aren’t going?
Max, Nikki: NOT IT!
Neil: dammit.

i have a sneaking suspicion
you notice how protective max is of Neil and Nikki and their friendship clearly being threatened by jasper in journey to spooky island (worried hell get replaced by him) i’m starting to wonder if we have a Stanley Yelnats situation where max’s best friends he has ever had are in this camp or worse his only true friends period. the idea of max being completely alone his family not caring about him having no friends because hes super cynical. the idea is both terrifying and great terrifying in that poor max had no one for so long but great because max has the place and people he belongs with the “gang “ if my thoughts are true that only makes the trio somehow even more pure if that’s possible. anyway long rambling post done
