Internships w/ Chicago Humanities Festival

The Chicago Humanities Festival Internship Program welcomes students and graduates to experience the creation and execution of public programs within a nonprofit cultural institution. 

This internship program will require a commitment of 14-21 hours a week for 3 to 9 months *, starting late January or early February 2017. 

CHF internships are project-based and vary based on the program cycle and needs of the organization. While all intern projects involve inter-departmental collaboration, each intern project has a specific concentration as outlined below. 

*Note, a 9 month internship is preferred, but a minimum commitment of 3 months is required.

Jimmy Jones Internship at Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago

Summer term (Application deadline: January 15) The MCA's Jimmy Jones Internship stipend was established to honor the memory of Dr. James E. "Jimmy" Jones, a dedicated member of the MCA's Board of Trustees from 1978-2006. During his extraordinary life, Dr. Jones was a leader in Chicago's cultural community, a passionate collector of contemporary art, a Captain in the US Air Force, and an OB/GYN who in the late 1960s became the first African American clinical associate at the University of Chicago Hospital. 

Jimmy Jones epitomized the true Renaissance spirit: a humanitarian and man of science, he was keenly interested in the work of contemporary artists and how their practice can be a reflection of and catalyst for social change. The Jimmy Jones Internship is designed to encourage university students with diverse backgrounds and who require supplementary income to explore art museum careers. Students interested in a curatorial career will receive special consideration. A stipend of $2,500 is available each summer.

Special Events Internship at Illinois Restaurant Association

The Illinois Restaurant Association's Special Events department is in need of an intern who will be responsible for coordination assistance and general administrative duties on special events including The James Beard Foundation Awards and Taste of Chicago.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain real-world experience in large scale event planning. This is a part time, unpaid internship. Must be able to work a minimum of two to three full days each week. Hours will vary during events. Class credit is available pending school approval.

Facilities and Operations Intern: The Facilities and Operations intern will have the opportunity to develop new skills and gain hands on experience working with the Facilities and Operations management team. The intern will take the lead role in archiving and creating a database for all museum architectural blueprints and plans, as well as gaining an understanding of Facility and Museum operations, maintenance, schedules and needs. 

Greg Cameron Internship: The MCA's Greg Cameron Internship recognizes the dedication of Greg Cameron, a long-time member of the MCA staff whose leadership and passion set an example for the entire MCA family for nearly 20 years. Convergence Design Lab Student Intern in Multimedia Content Design at Columbia College Chicago

Convergence Design Lab in the Office of the Dean of the School of Media Arts at Columbia College Chicago draws on open innovation strategies and platforms to strengthen civic media ecosystems. We partner with philanthropic organizations, civic and public institutions, schools and school districts, colleges and universities as well as a variety of NGOs and community groups. Convergence is looking for just the right person to assist in up-keeping our website, designing multimedia learning content and promoting our programs through social media. We are looking for someone with a diverse skill set in video, photography, audio and web/graphic design. However, you must be fluent in CSS/HTML and comfortable with Wordpress, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/In-Design. Experience in video production and editing and simple game or interactive media design is highly desired. Must be a good communicator and problem-solver with a sense of humor. Benefits of the job include dynamic and creative work in a collaborative and fun environment working along side a small dedicated team of learning experience designers. We are grant funded and do cutting edge work in partnership with cultural, civic and learning organizations including LRNG: Chi, Clemente High School, Harvard's Berkman Center for the Internet and Society, Fleet Farming in Orlando and Spy Hop in Salt Lake City.  

The start date and end date for this position is flexible - anytime between December and end of January. Work may continue into Summer and next year.

Public Relations Intern at Vanessa Abron Public Relations

The pubic relations intern must be a self-starter and self-motivated. The internship is designed to be a work-from-home experience, so the candidate must be disciplined and responsible enough to execute the necessary responsibilities in a timely manner without a manager looking over his/her shoulder.

This experience is extremely hands-on, so the intern must come with a both a creative side and the ability to carry out administrative duties as well. A basic understanding of public relations and its functions is imperative, along with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. No two days are ever the same, so the candidate must be able to switch gears quickly, prioritize projects and manage various accounts and projects.

Interns must also have the willingness and ability to think beyond traditional PR tactics and strategies to design/execute innovative approaches.

The duties of the internship are as follow:
