also i genuinely mean it when i say they should have written russell as trans and autistic bc i mean. numero uno that man reeks of autism. and numero dos i think it would have contributed greatly to his storyline, especially when he constantly talks abt hating how restrictive utopia was on him. it makes a lot of the utopians' "I Know Who You Really Are" attitude towards russell just a lot more personal

i'm trying to rewrite the plot to ivywood bc i think it reeks of wasted potential, and while im saving a lot of what i thought for a potential fic, i just wanted to mention like. there's such a big plot hole in the fact that the utopians BARELY did anything to stop russell from assisting the crew?

like, as much as the point was that the utopians had so much infighting, i realized that there could have been a case, at least somewhere before dead carpet, where they literally try framing russell as the creator of the brainwashing mechanism. i think it would have been such a good plot device to make russell feel isolated from his own team, ESPECIALLY since the team already knows russell is capable of being manipulative and slimy.

and then this would have been a good opportunity for his relationship w amy to progress, because their thing honestly came out of nowhere. i feel like if russell were to ever be accused of something, it's only amy out of the entire team who sides with russell. this could honestly lead to a plot point where amy gets brainwashed as well, but i digress...

and of course, by the end of that case, russell is proven innocent, but he's sort of shaken because he suddenly feels the same isolation he felt when he escaped the utopians at 16. so he's definitely more guarded and cold towards the player and other members of the force, but something obviously should happen in the next case BEFORE dead carpet which makes you the player connect with russell and understand where he's coming from

idk i just think !!! taking down the big baddie of a group wouldn't solve any of russell's issues u get me!!! i need to see more!!!

u cannot convince me that russell and amy comforted each other and grew closer by the end of white peaks/start of ivywood bc oh my god russell lays the flirting off THICK by deadly legacy. i just think pretty simple wasted an opportunity deepening their relationship by making russell generally remorseful about being a suspect in into the woods. instead, they should have made him remorseful abt the fact that he was a suspect in a case where amy needed the most support in!!!!

like, listen to me, that man 100% knew that duncan was the nightwalker. like ik russell's involvement here is pretty surface level mystery shit, but i think there's something to be said about how calm he was as a suspect during the case, dropping hints about the nightwalker's characteristics while Also paying good attention to amy's mental state!!! like that man knew!!

and it just feels wasted that we never see them make up or comfort each other in between both districts. but when we see them both again, they're like! fine! and flirting! flirting rlly hard actually! and amy blushes like it's not the first time it's happened. i'm led to believe there's secret shit that happened in between just because it makes Sense for their characters. i also think it would make for great parallels? like amy's finally proved herself against her mom at the same time russell is confronting his own unresolved familial issues

yeah so basically tldr imagine russell profusely ensuring that amy is okay after the cases in white peaks . conversely imagine amy being russell's main source of comfort during the rise of the utopians. imagine amy instinctively heading for russell's office to talk to him and have lunch breaks . theyre so crazy to me
