Meeting old friends was not something to look forward to for Delphine. She just didn’t see the point of having to sit through a meal with people who she couldn’t care less about. But she no longer had a legitimate reason to get out of this one. Petra Ecclestone was in town for a few days and she was throwing a festive welcome to 2019 dinner to catch up with old friends. Delphine tried to come up with a reason to skip another one of her friends’ events, but Petra wouldn’t take no for an answer.
It was just after six when Delphine finally finished her business down at her borough. The original plan was to wrap things up at 5 pm, go home, get changed and leave for dinner. But she’d been away for so long that she ended up staying later than planned. So she had the driver drove her straight to The Connaught instead of stopping at home.
At exactly seven, the blonde stepped into Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, wrapped in a Magda Butrym dress that she’d managed to slip into in the car. At the mention of her name, the restaurant’s hostess quickly led her to a table where the only unoccupied seat was right next to Damon Rutherford.
“My apologies,” she told Petra as she took her seat. “I got caught up at work and the traffic was terrible. Hello, Damon.”
