Hi there! I used to read your radiosnake fics religiously a few years ago and the lore you created for them was just so perfect imo I could never find any authors that scratched the same itch for me personally. I stumbled back upon your work again after watching the new show so I hope you don’t mind me asking about your older work - I was just wondering, if you were to write a sequel to CDIH would it feature Al and Pen rekindling some sort of friendship or romance? I know it would probably take a heck of a slowburn but I’m interested to know where you would’ve taken that story
I've got people following me for a fanfic I posted in 2008, I'm always happy to talk about older work.
I had a skeleton of a sequel outlined that I put on hold to wait to see what the show was like (and it's gonna stay on hold until I finish my current fic and am free to switch my primary fandom), but yeah, the goal was a slowburn reconciliation that leads back to romance.
90% of it would be dedicated to working Alastor around to the point where he decides a relationship is something he wants to choose for himself, rather than something he's unwillingly being forced into by his own treacherous heart.
After a betrayal like that, no big gestures nor lavish gifts nor daring rescues can win Sir Pent back. Big gestures and lavish gifts and daring rescues are cheap and easy for the Radio Demon—and he already gave Sir Pent plenty of those things back before he backstabbed him, so they can't be trusted. Theatrics and heroics are completely useless here. There's only one thing that could possibly win Pent over again:
~*emotional vulnerability*~
The only way back to where they were is by addressing and fixing the root cause of why things fell apart in the first place, and the root cause is Alastor being a cagey lone wolf who's scared of commitment and afraid of his own feelings. He's gotta be a big boy, honestly explain why he did what he did, and state in words what he actually wants now.
Which seems so small and easy. But we're talking about Alastor, here. He's not about to do something crazy like offer vulnerability and honesty until he's already tried and discarded literally every single other Hollywood-approved romantic gesture he can think of, up to and including attempting to win back all Sir Pent's lost turf as some sort of ridiculous courting gift. (It doesn't work. He takes it as an insult. "You don't think I can win it back myself?!" well, the past fifty years suggest no, but—)
In keeping with the theme of "it's Cold Day In Hell part 2, but it's a slow burn, so it's much longer," the tentative title of the fic would be Cold Wave.
What’s the song you referenced in CDIh? I think it was form that story but it could’ve been a diff fic of yours. Alastor mentioned a song he played on the radio where a boy is trying to kiss a girl but he kisses her brother instead - I’ve been trying to find it but I can’t 😭❤️
The song is "Masculine Women, Feminine Men"! Lyrics here, along with links to a bunch of different recordings if you scroll down. It's a song from 1926 about women picking up masculine fashion/behavior and vice versa. The original intent was probably to be humorously critical of gender nonconformity, but naturally the queer community scooped it up and went "our song now."
In the US between WWI and the Great Depression, there was a boom in queer people (particularly trans people and cross dressers) being seen as trendy—the "Pansy Craze"—a bit of a spectacle, but a positive spectacle, it was a step in the right direction toward acceptance. And then society backslid coinciding with the Hays Code being instituted circa 1933/34. Here's a bunch of other queer songs from the Pansy Craze.
So I haven't watched hazbin bc I don't want to get invested in something so divisive in and out of the fandom, but I have listened to the songs. And in the vox and alastor song, where alastor sang "He asked me to join his team,I said no, and now he's pissy, that's the tea"; all I could think was your fic where vox was miserable post breakup and alastor made things worse. That fic is now completely Canon to me
I keep seeing spoilers on my dash that make me smugly go oh I called it. I totally got that right. I'm a genius. Alastor & Vox's dynamic was one of those things.
At this point if some show/character/pairing/trope/whatever is "divisive" I just go out of my way to Not Give A Shit about the people who like it if I dislike it, and Not Give A Shit about the people who dislike it if I like it. Who gives a fuck if it's divisive if you're not wasting your mental energy studying the divide. What, do you have friends that are gonna bail on you if you pick a side of the divide? If they'd dump you over whether or not you like a frigging cartoon then they're shit friends anyway, whether they're for or against it. Don't be afraid to develop an opinion. Ignore the rabble rousers.
What’s so funny is that hazbin has the same relationship and implications of your CDIH but with vox instead of Pentious
lmao. Just do a name search/replace and
Being fr reading ur fics made Pentious fleshed out and complicated and interesting and unique and then I get whiplash watching the show remembering it’s not at all canon
I always figured that if anything I wrote was gonna be jossed HARD by the show coming out, it would be giving Sir Pent depth. And a history of success.
Oh well, I knew the chance I was taking lol
hello, I really liked your fan fiction, and thanks to you I even drew something! Thank you, I hope I read this correctly, considering that I read you through a translator. This art is based on your fan fiction "Come a little closer"
I do not know how to use tumblr and that's how I decided to show you art
I'm sorry it took me over a week to reply, but it's because I kept looking at this picture in my inbox
thank you I love it
(edit: I should probably include a link to the fic for other people)
So I read your snakeradio fics and the fic with abused Vox. That with listening to the fansong eyes on me just makes me think of a scenario where Pentious and Vox get into a relationship (either casual one night stands or long term commited, doesn't matter) and heal a bit and are happy, while alastor hates it. Just HATES it
Eh, I've never vibed with Vox/Pent, personally. Like nothing objectively wrong with it, it just doesn't hit my buttons.
And if we're talking about my radiosnake fics, in this bit from the abused Vox fic:
That was what Vox liked to do, wasn’t it. Any time Alastor wasn’t around, Vox crept into the gaps he left behind. He was an opportunistic mechanical vulture, snatching up electrical infrastructure that had been abandoned—or that their rightful owners were too incapacitated to defend.
It's left to make it sound like Alastor's talking about himself, since Alastor's ex is left ambiguous in the fic; but right here he's actually quietly switched to talking about Sir Pentious. All the factories, the parts suppliers, the warehouses, etc. that were part of Sir Pentious's turf before Alastor kicked him down, Vox snatched up before Sir Pentious had a chance to recover. Vox built his throne on top of everything that Sir Pentious spent the last ~80 years building. Sir Pentious's defeat is the reason why Vox ascended to the level of overlord. Alastor doesn't just hate Vox because he took FM and Alastor's baby TV channels, but because he took everything from Sir Pentious while he was down.
Which means, in this continuity, Sir Pentious has as much of a reason to hate Vox as Alastor does. Like, less than he hates Alastor, but still a lot.
Although I'm not against "Sir Pentious dates someone else and Alastor Hates It" in general. I imagine several times since the sixties Sir Pent has gotten into relationships and Alastor has gone "this is fine! I don't mind! I'm happy for him!" *kicks over a trash can* Most of them are OCs because there aren't really any canon characters I'm interested in seeing him with. ... Except Robo-Fizz. Long story.
