DJs — do you even want a jog wheel anymore?
I think that jog wheels have been a hit or miss item for many of us. The issue here is not what they are meant to do – it is more of an issue of if we are apt to use them the proper way. A scratch DJ who goes from turntables to jog wheels is certainly not going to rely on them for any sort of serious scratching. However, they can make small cuts here and there more efficient and less risky for a mixing DJ. For those who have zero intention of scratching, the jog wheels serve a greater purpose. They can feature and nudge the speed of a track to sync it up or to line up cue points in the first place. Are these something that will disappear the same way that the CD has disappeared? In essence, these are only here because they were useful when CDs were being used. Since then, music has become purely digital and can be controller with a keyboard and a mouse if necessary. It seems like these may become a relic of the past unless a company finds a better way to make use of them. I don’t see them disappearing in the future. http://djworx.com/djs-even-want-jog-wheel-anymore/
