365 Reasons We Love...New York City
Aquamarine: The Marriage of Ocean and Sky
All of us at cdmTraveling are obsessed with Aquamarine jewelry - earrings, bracelets and rings mostly. So today I looked up the legend of this powerful gem and was surprised to find that it translates directly to our business. How cool!
Aquamarine, a translucent blue gemstone whose name originates from the Italian word for seawater, embodies the magnificence of the oceans and the grandeur of the skies. Legends refer to aquamarine as the treasure of Atlantis, with the power to keep sailors safe at sea.
To many ancient cultures, dating back to the Middle Ages and beyond, aquamarine was a symbol of happiness, courage and everlasting youth. The blue stone is said to be used by healers to remind their clients of an ocean of love and mercy.

September 11th......
In commemoration of September 11, 2001, the annual memorial of the "Tribute in Light" will return for one night. The lights are located at West and Morris Streets in Lower Manhattan. The memorial display creates two sky-piercing columns of light in roughly the spot where the Twin Towers once stood. The lights will be on for one night on September 11, 2011, beginning at sunset and fading away at dawn on September 12th.
Oh Dear...
Oh, how the rich live! While you struggle to find a parking space, Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich has been stressing over who took his mooring spot for his £1billion ($1.6bn) yacht Eclipse – the largest in the world at 557ft long! And the culprit was none other than Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Alsaud – whose own yacht Kingdom KR5 – took the coveted mooring in ‘Millionaire’s Quay’ in Antibes, in the French Riviera. According to ‘Dailymail’, the last space in Europe’s biggest yachting harbour Antibes, simply wasn’t big enough for the two superyachts. Abramovich finally sailed Eclipse out to sea and left it there! Antibes is the largest yachting harbour in Europe with more than 2,000 moorings – but only one spot big enough for Eclipse.
Built in 1980, Eclipse comes fitted with two swimming pools, two helicopter pads, a dedicated disco hall, 30 cabins, a mini-submarine, and even a missile defence system, has no comparison. The yacht even featured in the 1983 James Bond film ‘Never Say Never Again’. Prince Al Waleed bought the yacht in 1991, and renamed it Kingdom 5KR after his investment company Kingdom Holdings, his lucky number five and the initials of two of his children. Prince Al Waleed is the world’s 26th richest man with £12.3bn ($20.1bn) , according to ‘Forbes’ magazine, while Abramovich is 53rd with a fortune of £8.4bn ($13.7bn).
