Martial Art Life Lesson
Meet Cecep Arif Irawan, Indonesian Martial Artist who fought Keanu Reeves at John Wick. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iBQBJnyfi8 The main objective is synchronizing our bodies with nature, with our surroundings, that's how we survive. It's not about what's attacking us but how we overcome a problem. In a fight, we're faced with many obstacles physically, But our minds are also challenged. How can we decide the direction depends on how the enemy attacks. There are 2 outcomes for us. What happens if we dodge it, and what happens if we fail to do so. So even when we fail, we won't be shocked because we've considered the outcome. We already have a plan of what to do when we fail. The kind of adaptation skill is what we need to think about when learning pencak silat. In silat, we’re not taught to harm others but just to defend ourselves. And we can apply that to our lives as well. We don’t have to look for problems, but if there are problems, we should just try to solve them right. We shouldn’t push ourselves with ulterior motives. Adapt to your generation but don’t forget your culture. So that knowledge will always develop and be passed on. Because if we go to the old system, silat will go extinct. It will be buried with its last teacher.
