how did damis meet creme? :0 (hopefully ok to ask oc questions, your ocs are very cool!)

Thank you and it is more than okay to ask oc questions, these make my day and I miss the days of them being more normal(old man moments). Knowing people like my art and characters enough to interact and ask questions is amazing and fulfilling.

As for how Damis met Creme, he found her as an abandoned hatchling back when he was young and studying to become field nurse(medics specializing with healing magic who accompany monster hunting teams). He found her on a cold climate training trip, she was found alone with her parents most likely being killed as Bone Harbingers(finally came up with a species name :]) are seen as omens of death and as a danger. They took her in out of a mixture of pity and interest, later bonding with her as their familiar. Due to her being their familiar and being raised by them, she has a lower aggression and hunting drive than other Bone Harbingers, but she is still a force to be reckoned with, showing why most do not forge a familiar bond with large animals(Damis is lucky they were a nurse at a point because they have to patch themself up a bit because of her).

I love the designs of Jasper and elliot, they're so cute and just generally aesthetically pleasing to look at! What're their backstories like?

I’m so mad, not at you but at my dumb laptop. I just spent the last two hours slowly writing out their back stories to share and my page decided to randomly become a different page that I just closed and delete all my work. Fuck. I really don’t want to go through and retype all of the information again because that took so long. I’ll just give a very shortened version because I am very tired now and my pain decided to show up again. Note, they are both from a post apocalyptic world that I am working on where out world collided with the magic world, re awakening creatures and releasing new ones. That’s a whole different thing tho.(also thank you so much, Jasper and Elliot are so special to me and it brings me such joy that others like them!)

Jasper doesn’t have an actual set age due to him not having a properly recored childhood. At around the age of 12, his half brother Julian cut off his arm, causing him to flee into the woods for an unknown time. He was found by a monster hunting guild master and she took him on as a ward. Here he was able to heal and regain some normality, but at the same time he was shown new trauma and trained to kill. At around the age of 20, he was disowned by his guild master/mentor for speaking against her harmful teachings and coming out as trans. He moved to another city/guild and begin transitioning, recovering yet again, and try to live a better life. His brother found him again and challenged him too a “fair”, he cheated and this time took his eye. Jasper fled again to a new guild/city to try and lose his brother, leading to now.

Elliot was born with purple eyes, which are a physical show of when a person has a strong magical pull. Because of this, his parents set extremely high expectations for him and expected him to “continue the magic bloodline”. He lived a very closeted life and was more of a set piece than a person for his parent. To get away from them and to actually use his magic potential, he left to study to become a guild healer(basically magic nurses who also go out on the field for big hunts). Currently he is a guild healer and still a bit closeted but mainly to societal heteronormativity.

I left somethings out due to “spoilers” as I do want to do somethin with their stories one day, but also because I’m tired. THank you so much for the ask! I am so happy to get something about these boys!

What's some of your personal maren/merfolk lore? Either how they came about if they have unnatural origins like some of your vampires or just how they coexist with non-marens in general

Thank you so much for the ask, and oh boy, I'm going to hold myself back a little, but I do have a mostly fleshed out answer(mostly in the way I love to continue to build on it).

Merfolk are human based like most of the other humanoid species in my lore(aside from a select few but those are their own can of worms for another day). Like others, they were created from magical intervention and humans to create a new species, I have yet to land on the specific reason for them to branch, but they are

One of the reasons for their recent redesign is to fit this lore a bit more, plus the fact I like to put my own spin on thing(but no that's not relevant right now). To keep up with the human origins, I purposefully do not give them further down limbs or bony fins, all of that tail is pure muscle to help with propulsion and steering. Their upper body is mostly like those of their human origins but they have specialized legs(which I know bend in the "wrong" way, but I'm having fun and *magic*).

And for their current relation to humans, it's muddy. They of course have some visual similarities still in the upper half, but internally and genetically they are branching further and further away. They can still inter breed with humans like imps can, but only in specific circumstances. Speaking in terms of sex, only male humans and female merpeople can hybridize while a male merperson and female human cannot due to incompatibility. Hybrids are rare due to the contradicting lifestyles of humans and merpeoople, but for each generation of hybridization, it always favors the human side, so the loss of merperson trait can happen fast, within only a couple generations(ex. Cliff(and the other Teal brothers) is a first generation hybrid, causing loss of size and coating, with his son a second, and he is already mostly human looking with human legs and loss of tail but still some coating and slight larger size than average human)

always a joy to see your ocs on my dash!! if youre still open for lore questions i would love to know how damis met toreth and how it first found out about toreth being a werewolf? their dynamic in the recent art pieces has been really fun so i got curious to know more about their combined backstory ^^

Ah, thank you and I am so delighted to hear that(such reactions are my goal after all haha)! I am always open to any sort of question, especially lore questions.

Under cut just for cleanliness.

Damis and Toreth met after the "incident" that lead to Damis being left for dead and their horns being taken as a trophy. They were dumped in The Underground(sewers/caves below Arcane Roost) as they were thought dead but was found by some necromancers(The Underground is frequented by necromancers and other users of forbidden magics as it's a great area to disappear but still benefit from the Magic Well that Arcane Roost is built on top of). Toreth use to be a hunter for hire and was sent on a bounty for a bone harbinger that was seen loose around the city as they're dangerous and stigmatized creatures. Upon finding the bone harbinger(Creme) he was sent after, he realized it was not feral or an active danger and was attempting to get into the sewers. Out of curiosity, he followed it to where it was attempting to go, leading him to the necromancer lair where Damis and others were being kept and tested upon. Damis did see themself as in debt to Toreth, so originally followed him around due to that, but after some time the two formed a deeper bond and stick together out of companionship and comfort over convenience and obligation. The two have been traveling together for some time now and trust each other even if they occasionally goad each other on at times.

As for finding out Toreth's werewolf nature, he's actually pretty open about it. Generational werewolves are not seen as a threat and many times seen as an asset when hiring for protection or hunting, which is what Toreth specializes in. Damis could literally give less than a shit, it's pretty chill when things come to taboo's or oddities, it's done enough dubious things to not judge others for much. The reason why he has to go non wolf form at times is due to two reasons, one being to not draw attention, werewolves are not seen as threats but they are not common place so he stands out when in that form, and two being staying too long in his wolf form can be straining so sometimes he is forced to change back as to not hurt himself.

got curious about the tags on the last lore post!! why did damis choose a knife as its wand? also curious about how the knife functions as a wand. like how does he use it? (if this is too many questions at once feel free to ignore some)

Don't worry, any amount of questions are good(and very appreciated), and I'm glad your curiosity was piqued by my rambling breadcrumbs. Going to first answer the meatier of the two on how it can be a wand. Wands are not just contained to the classic stick, wands are a magic imbued items that works as a conduit for magic users to not strain themselves as much. Their material, shape, appearance, can all be unique to the user as long as they can handle it. Popular wands are usually anything someone can easily hold and have on their person, like stones, pens, books, anything of the like, these are usually very personal and unique items so they cannot be lost or confused for something else. But yes this means a wand can be anything, that doesn't mean it should be, you can make that big immovable boulder your wand as you can touch and channel through it, but should you? I went over wands a bit in this post a while back and it still stands, magic users can only create one wand at a time as it's more of an extension of themself and not another magical being like a familiar. So Damis's wand being a knife shows no issue when using it to channel magic due to it being a knife.

As for why Damis chose to make their wand a knife, just because they can and thought it would be cool(same reason why they bonded with a giant bird monster). Knives are not one of the more accepted wand types for practical use, imagine you're going to cast a benign spell and you pull out your wand, but your wand's a knife and everyone sees you with a knife. To use a wand you have to have it touching your physical person(skin to skin), so a knife is not the most innocuous wand to have if you don't want attention on yourself. Also doesn't help that Damis's knife is very eye catching and sacrificial looking(they may be morally dubious but they aren't sacrificing anyone, this was just a choice on their part[also need to fine up their knife design])

I would like to throw the dasien triplets a new plushie, if that’s alright. perhaps inspired by your old raptor dragons? I used to adore the little sinosauropteryx

Oh yes! I have been meaning to draw them again because I love their design and lore implications. The Dasien triplets have been renamed to the Atlas triplets(Atlas being the middle/dominate head), I just have not updated that across all areas because of forgetfulness. For context, they can be refered to as Atlas as a whole with they/them but in specific the heads are Ajax(dark head he/him), Atlas(center he/they), and Athos(light head they/them), each head has their own personality as they are three different entities but only Atlas can control the rest of their body(no taking turns, but Atlas will do things on request of the others). They would appreciate the plush, especially a raptor plush because they can say it's cool and rad for them, a teen, to have it.(no one is judging them aside from themself[and maybe Possum])

And don't worry! The raptors are still cannon! I just have not had the energy to draw them and their companions in a bit, I should draw Ivy and Amber next for the line up with all their raptors included, I do miss Gilbert so. To make up for that have a sketch Amber and Jovi since you mentioned him and I cannot pass up an opportunity to draw the raptor based on my favorite dinosaur :D

as for a question about characters, do you have any that have any cool prosthetics? or mobility aids that theyve decorated/made more fun for themself?

I've been sitting on this because I wanted to draw my new guy Rhys for this because he has two prosthetics that are stylized to be like porcelain. Not pictured is his cane that is also rose themed(wooden with roses carved into it). He's a retired hunter who now runs a small nursery/flower shop so he has a brand and is staying on it haha. (I also missed his glasses but that's just me being lazy and forgetful). In my lore and stories, prosthetics are powered by magic, allowing them to be more intricate then current ones, so customization can get more intricate, but most still have to retain to the shape of the part they're acting as so the user's body can still operate them properly.(so no tentacle instead of arm as a practical use prosthetic as it would strain the user's mind and energy)

I have a good handful of characters with mobility aids and prosthetics, but another that comes to mind for customized is Stag, who has a custom arm made by his son who specializes in making custom pieces like that.
