New friends
Well, it’s 6:30 pm on HUMP DAY!!!
I’ve been dying to take a nap. I was up late last night—didn’t go to bed til 11:30!!!!! …okay, I know that’s not that late. But it is for me, and I got up early for work this morning!
However, last night was a blast. We had the guys from the up and coming pop/electronic band, “Civil City” over for dinner and some jamming on the piano. Let me tell you—as fun and nice as those guys are, they are exhausting!! We cooked and cleaned all day, only for them to show up late… ;)
Earlier in the day yesterday, I was messaging a fan who said she loved that our two bands were such good friends. Well, my dear, so are we! We’re happy and blessed to have come to know Brandon, Mike, Eric, and JR of Civil City, as they are four of the coolest guys around and were gracious enough to invite us to play at the Ottobar with them this past Saturday. But having a supercalifragilisticexpealidocious time at the show, making new fans, and exposing our music were just fractions of why we love these guys; we’re so excited to share a passion for music with some new friends!
The Ottobar show also wouldn’t have been the same without two other awesome musical acts, Over Andover and Mark Mikina (a personal friend of mine). I was overwhelmed by the bucketloads of talent that OA and Mark showed off. OA has amazing stage presence and an obvious connection with their many loyal fans. Mark can reach notes that I didn’t even know existed, as his range is compared to that of Alannis Morisette. His songs gave me chills!
Finally, Civil City KILLED it, headlining the show with their eleven original songs. I don’t know how they are able to combine pop, electronic, rap, and even jazz to make such an incredibly unique sound, but they GOT it and they will definitely go somewhere with it. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them! We’re also planning to make a cover with them soon… any requests?!
