what does B1/A1/etc. mean when it comes to languages? i’m assuming it means how fluent you are but how can you tell?
Hi there! Yes, it’s an indication of your level in a language according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (often referred to as CEFR), with A1/A2 being beginner, B1/B2 being intermediate and C1/C2 being advanced. You can find a brief overview of each level here and an in-depth overview here. You can estimate your level by checking which criteria you meet, or you can take online tests for a number of languages. Here’s some links if you’re curious:
Folkuniversitetet (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Norwegian Bokmål, Arabic, Syrian Arabic, Turkish and Danish)
Cactuslanguage (Arabic, Cantonese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Turkish)
Dialang (French, Irish, Italian, Icelandic, Greek, English, Spanish, Swedish, Finnish, German, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian Bokmål and Portuguese)
You can also type in «CEFR test [your target language]» or «language level test [your target language]» and something should come up!
Hope that helps!
