Hey, you seem really nice (+ i like reading what u write), and i was wondering - i'm going to pass an 20min oral tmr (a big grade in my final exams for the french BAC) and i'm really really shy (i cried during the mock exam); any advice please? :)
Hello, sweetie! Woah, thank you so much!! <3
Well, this can be something very difficult to improve from one day to the other, since overcoming shyness can be a process that requires some time. However, there are ways for you to feel a lot better and do a great job in your presentation tomorrow!
First of all, you need to understand that all of the anxiety and shyness you might feel is merely psychological. Besides, it won’t help with your grade at all, in fact, it is only getting in your way! So, try to take deep breaths before it starts and tell yourself that you are the owner of your own body, so you won’t let it be beaten by the nervousness ever!
Then, some tips for when you are actually there are:
Look to someone you feel comfortable with while talking (or even to the wall), in a way that it looks that you’re making eye contact with the people in the room;
Keep a good and straight posture, since it shows confidence;
In case you don’t know what to do with your hands while speaking, try to take a paper with you, so you can grab it;
In the paper, you could also write the more crucial points you have to approach during the presentation, in order to have some kind of support to look at, in case you forget something;
Do not let yourself get more anxious, if something goes wrong! Many people tend to feel even more perplexed and confused, when they make some mistake or forget something. Please, do not let that happen to you! Making mistakes is only human, so once again, take some deep breaths and try your best to continue firmly with your presentation;
And, most importantly… believe in yourself! Having confidence is half way to success. So do not doubt yourself or your own capabilities and do your best!
I’m rooting for you ;)
