This is a potassium iodide solution made out of burned kelp. Itโs an old fashioned remedy with a lot of uses, including as a disinfectant and as a microscopy stain. It has also been used to protect the thyroid from radioactive fallout. I keep enough of it in my apothecary to give a dose to everyone in my community, should the need ever arise.
