Hey! With all the chaos unfolding in this site, there have been numerous posts circulating on what social media platforms to switch to and how to back up the posts of your account.
Well tumblr itself has a back-up option - it used to be called Back Up but now it says Export - and it’s right there in the Settings. If you have multiple accounts, you have to choose which account you want to back up or export. If you haven’t clicked on it yet, it’ll look like this:
This function automatically compiles all your posts into a zip file. Just click on that button and it’ll start processing your back-up:
The process would take at least a day later, depending on how many posts and how heavy those posts are. (Mine took almost 24 hours so you don’t have to keep coming back to check on it, it’s still processing.)
Once it’s finished, tumblr will send an email notifying you that it’s done (so keeping an updated email is always useful!):
When you click on that button, it automatically sends you to that last part of the settings and it’ll look like this:
It doesn’t tell you how big the ZIP file actually is, so best to have a steady internet while it downloads. Since I backed up my art account, which is image-heavy and has been in use for a couple of years, I’m expecting it go at least 1 GB. (I just started downloading the zip file while I was typing this, and right now it’s going 40 MB.)
Will post more updates as they come!
