Celeste collapsed into her bed, letting out a groan from exhaustion. Today had been a very long day, especially with yet ANOTHER person going missing. She didn’t know why it was happening or who’s been doing it. Everything was so overwhelming and she hated it. She looked around her room, wondering what she should do now since she didn’t have any homework to do for the weekend. She could watch TV, read, draw, maybe even listen to music. But even then, she would still be bored. Celeste looked over at the clock; 3:55pm. Dinner would be ready at 5:00 but she didn’t know what to eat. She decided to go over to the kitchen and see what they had. She went into the kitchen and opened the fridge. Her face shifted into an annoyed expression when she saw that there was nothing good to eat in there. She sighed and walked out. As she was going back into her room, she passed her dad’s bedroom. She knew she shouldn’t be in there, but her curiosity got the best of her, so she went in.
Inside, she looked around the room and saw all the dresses in the closet.
She went over to them and looked at the fabric, one of them being a blue floral dress. “Oh wait..These are mom’s dresses.” She chuckled slightly but then she started to wonder; “Why does he have her dresses anyway? Does he miss her that badly?” Celeste pondered until something caught her eye. She walked over to his nightstand and found a cigarette pack. Celeste’s eyes widened. “I didn’t know he smokes..” She started to worry. She didn’t like smoking or anyone smoking. It was an awful coping mechanism, and she didn’t want her dad to develop lung cancer or anything. She wanted to take the cigarettes, but she didn’t want him to yell or hit her, so she left.
Celeste looked at the clock again; 4:21pm. How long was she there? She laid down on her bed and looked over to her shelf. She saw a Lyra Heartstrings figure on her shelf, and she immediately got up and took it. She saw the other childhood toys and put all of them in her drawer. She didn’t like the idea of anyone finding out how she coped due to the fear of being mocked and laughed at.
She looked down at the figure and clutched it in her hand tightly, putting it in her pocket. She grabbed her sketch book, trying to take her mind off things and started to draw. She drew a picture of Her and Jaxx as their fursonas, making sure to add as much kandi and fluff to Jaxx’s spider fursona as possible. She always wondered why Jaxx liked spiders. She personally found them gross, but she didn’t complain. She looked at the clock again; 4:40pm. She decided to just eat now and ordered a pizza. She hated ordering things through the phone since she always had a hard time talking to people in fear of messing up and sounding dumb, but she didn’t know what else to eat.
The pizza came twenty minutes later; 5:00pm. She took a deep breath and opened the door to the delivery guy.
“Pizza for Celestine Cromwell!”
“That’s me! T-Thank you very much...!” She gave him $20, face hot and her hand shaking slightly.
“Have a wonderful evening, ma’am.”
“Y-You too…pal.”
When she closed the door, she groaned. “Why did I say that?? ‘You too, pal.’?? What the hell was that??” She groaned and went over to the kitchen. She sat down at the table and took a slice and pizza, eating it. She looked over at the window, watching the sun go down. The idea of eating alone still made her uncomfortable. She wished her dad was there.
************
Everett stared down at his food, still thinking about what happened today. Everything was so confusing to him but yet he knew that there was something weird about all of this. He remembered Mateo’s face and how hurt he looked with his mother going missing. He didn’t want him to suffer like that.
“Everett, honey?”
Everett looked up from this food and saw his mom giving him a concerned look. “Are you okay? You haven't touched your soup.” Everett could only nod his head and look back down. “Just think about Mateo. His mom went missing.” Everett replied. His mom nodded her head. “She was a very sweet woman,” His dad from the other side of the table said. “I do hope she comes back soon.”
“She’s not going to come home at all.” Everett thought to himself. “I hope so too!” Eclipse, Everett’s younger sister spoke up. “She was like- an aunt to me! I feel so bad for Mateo and Mr. Rodriguez.” Eclipse turned to Everett. “Tell your friend I said I'm sorry for what happened to her.”
He looked up from his plate. “I will, don’t worry.” He continued to play with his food and kept thinking about Mateo. He wished he didn’t have to suffer through this.
No one should.
He kept thinking about him until his thoughts wandered to Mateo’s mother. Something she told him kept playing in his head. He grimaced, remembering that. He wished she was still here, safe and wished Mateo wasn’t going through this grief. He looked over at his dad. “Dad, I'm sorry but I'm not hungry right now. Can I be excused?” He asked him. His dad’s eyebrows furrowed a bit and then sighed. “Okay. But you’re eating it tomorrow, understand? Your mother spent a very long time making this.” “I will.” Everett muttered. He put his bowl near the sink and went up to his room.
When he closed the door, he put his head in his hands and groaned. “Christ..what has this world come to?” He said through gritted teeth. He walked over to his desk and sat down, pulling out a few pictures of the bakery and extra flyers of missing people and putting them on his desk. He stared at them for a moment and remembered Mateo’s mom and him talking one more time before the incident. That memory replayed in his head over and over again. He sighed, his eyes starting to become moist. “If I didn’t doubt myself...” He muttered. “I’m so sorry, Mateo.” Just then, he heard someone knock on his door. Everett got up and walked over to the door and opened it, revealing Eclipse standing there, holding a kandi necklace in the form of a rose. “Cal..What’s this?” He asked her. “It’s kandi. Dakota taught me how to make them. Can you give this necklace to Mateo? The rose reminds me of his mom, and I made it for him to remember her.” She told him. Everett’s eyes widened slightly as he gently held the necklace. “Yeah, of course. I’ll give it to him when I see him tomorrow. He’ll love it, Cal.” Eclipse smiled. “Thank you.” She said before her smile faltered. “Are you okay? I heard sniffling.” Everett stayed silent for a moment before sighing.
“Y-Yeah, I'm okay,” He replied. “Just processing this still is all.”
“Alright..Let me know if you need anything.”
“I will.”
When Everett closed the door, he went back to his desk and stared down at the piles of papers in front of him. He saw a picture of Christopher and scowled. “You are a freak. An awful man. I know you killed someone. I know you killed HER. And I'll make sure that EVERYONE knows what you have done.” He rambles on. He was suspicious of Christopher before, sure, but now that Mateo’s mother went missing, that was enough evidence for him to know that that man was a monster and he HATED him. He looked out the window and whispered. “Everyone will know what you did. I’m doing this for my people.”
